That’s actually why Hoke is saying he has heard that Bryan Harsin won’t be fired until the end of the season.
There's no way... a coach doesn't get a buyout if he resigns. Hopefully Harsin takes another job and resigns.

I would just add “a good coach who can recruit good players and a good staff who can recruit good players while consistently recruiting good players- especially really good linemen.”
If there's one thing the Chizik/Malzahn era proves... if you have consistent very very high talent coming in you may not have good seasons every year but when things come together you have a shot at a title. I'd rather have super talented teams that make playoff runs every 5 years or so than middling well coached teams with mediocre talent.

Hoke put out an insider article about the AD/HC search so here's a rundown:
— Hartwell is still the front runner, but McGlynn is pushing hard and is under consideration
— Hoke believes Harsin will remain until after the season due to the HC candidates Auburn is interested in and the coordinators being loyal to Harsin and if he's removed they'll leave too. There'd be too much upheaval firing him before then, everything's subject to change but that's where everything's trending as of RN.
— If a hot board had been put out a few weeks ago the names on there would've been: Kentucky HC Mark Stoops
Liberty HC Hugh Freeze
Baylor OC Jeff Grimes
Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin
Jackson State HC Deion Sanders
Cincinnati HC Luke Fickell
Alabama Associate DC Charles Kelly
Since then a Stoops hire lost momentum, Kiffin would cost $9M (that's a lot of money after paying buyouts for Gus and Harsin along with the potential personality clash between Kiffin and the PTB plus Kiffin wants to wait until either Bama or A&M come open.) Neither Kelly nor Fickell gained traction outside of a few.
Grimes would have universal support among the PTB and Administration and he's heard good things about the kind of staff he would put together( a poster Cookedw said they heard Brian Hartline would be Grimes choice at OC with his brother Mike the QB coach)
Freeze's baggage is a concern and whether Sankey or Roberts would sign off on him. RN the chances of them signing off on Freeze are low.
There are a lot of important, respected, and influential people who want Sanders to at least get a legitimate look, but there are others who are worried Sanders will use us as a launching pad to another program like his alma mater Florida State.
Grimes is the odds on favorite to become the next HC as of today. There's optimism that there'll be alignment among the PTB with regards to the next HC this time around.

I will be heartbroken if it’s not Prime, but I think I could get on board with Grimes. He would have to go out and get a few ace recruiters for the staff. Time for Dell to come home.

Wouldn't that depend on language in their contracts? They'd be morons to quit midseason just because Harsin is fired and it voided their buyouts.

Me too. I wanted him in '17.
We can pay for him now or pay for not hiring him for years when he's at bama.

Well frick them then. Would that not be grounds to void their buyout?

I have never understood why we would fire a guy in the middle of the season unless you want to hire a guy that is not currently coaching.
Example: Bruce Pearl. He was on TV so it would make sense to try and lock him up quick before someone else does.
But if we are targeting a guy who is already coaching now - why fire your head coach early? Let him pile up the losses and finish 3-9 and then the media cannot trash you for moving on.

He also said Freeze and Lane aren't likely. Grimes is front runner with Prime a strong 2nd.

I'm hearing TJ is done and will most likely transfer.
T. Dawson did not make the Athens trip and will either redshirt or transfer or both.
And now Harsin. Apparently Harsin did not attend the main meal for the official visitors this last weekend. Basically every coach in modern history at Auburn has went to these dinners, had players over to their house, etc etc. Harsin is not doing this anymore. I was curious if neglecting recruiting functions on campus, not being present for recruiting dinners, etc could possibly be a reason for being fired with cause? I am not a lawyer, but I wouldn't be surprised if the buyout goes into litigation at some point. Maybe someone can shed some light on what responsibilities the coach has to honor his contractual obligations.

If true then should be fired immediately
