Nobody said he couldn’t get better. But right now, he’s not the guy. I said from the start Gatewood gives the best chance to win this year, and I still stand by that. Mainly because a guy like Joey can make a subpar Oline look better than they are by his scrambling ability.

He apparently is the guy, though. Gatewood couldn’t beat him out. I wanted Gatewood to come in yesterday, too, for the record - especially on third and short.

I was hoping we would see DJ Williams at some point.

You and me, both. It seems pretty evident that Gus was playing his best not to lose (e.g., only playing players he has full faith in). Really hoping this loss serves as the turning point for that play style. We have a lot of playmakers sitting on the sidelines.

No kidding. If there was a time for Gus to save his job, it’s this year.

Next year, Auburn loses their entire OL, most of their DL, a lot of the secondary. And the hardest games are away.

Having to replace the offensive and defensive fronts at the same time, in the SEC, is not a recipe for success.

We've got some talent coming in at those positions and Garner always seems to produce badass lines so I'm not super concerned there...

But yeah, he needs to get this team whipped into shape fast.

I agree. If he could’ve had a special year this year, it could’ve insulated him a little more from the hot seat talk next year. Next year is probably going to be rough.

Maybe he can still have a great year, but I think sufficient replaces special with the Florida loss.

He does this every year. I don’t know why people think he will change. We’ve had these exact same conversation basically every year.

I do acknowledge that it was a hostile environment at the Swamp, we have a freshman QB, etc...yet, on the other hand, if LSU, UGA, and Bama had our players and our schedule the last few years, I feel like they somehow would've managed a way to reach 10 or more wins each season....

He needs an O-LINE.

Let’s hope he learns from this. A true freshman who played like one today. He wasn’t ready for the moment today. Let’s hope he can recover.

He will. The key, though, will be Gus. Will he learn what Bo's strengths are and play to those? Or will he continue to put him in bad positions?

I agree that we lost because Bo missed throws, but Gus needs to either learn what his weaknesses are passing and design new plays OR continue practicing him to hit those throws.

Nick Marshall’s loss to LSU about this time in our run that year propelled that team.

Nick Marshall’s legs aren’t walking through the tunnel any time soon.

We’re a woeful football team that will be exposed against good defenses. Georgia and Alabama are going to make Nix run for his life. LSU might too.

He will. It’ll be interesting to see how the team responds. I seem to recall a few seasons where bad losses early led to stronger teams later

I am not trying to fight at all, but other than 2013, can you give an example?

Unrelated, but I work in mfg with a ton of bama fans, when they lose, all the pressure is off. When AU loses, it's a tailspin, out-of-control dive.

From Cole:

-Bo Nix on Passes Thrown 10+ Yards Downfield vs UF:

2-14
78 yards
1 TD-3 INT

-Both completions to Seth Williams

-Florida had more interceptions than it allowed completions on throws of 10+ yards downfield in the game.

Correct, but we have a huge QB riding the pine, that would be devastating running a read option on 3rd and short. Instead, Boobie hops up and down, gets the handoff that everybody and their brother knows he's getting, and subsequently stuffed at the line.

Nick Marshall was the king of read option. Gatewood isn't as fast, but he's a shite-ton bigger.

Yep. But Gus will keep Nix in there, and burn this season to the ground. It’s very frustrating.

On top of that, Fla's passing game was adequate at best.

Except for 2 plays w/ poor scheming and poor tackling on the WR slant(defended by a Middle LB:BRitt) and poor tackling by Thomas on both long TDs, I don't think FLa drives the ball against us.

And Gus lack of trying to get a spark:

1. either by using Gatewood on 3rd and shorts
2. Letting Gatewood have a series or 2 to let Bo relax and get his thoughts reorganized
3. Not using SHivers at all (not my fav RB anyway)
4. Giving Schwartz only 1 carry and ZERO targets

Malik actually got some good yards yesterday but I agree with your sentiment.

It's just really annoying to watch Gus play only "his" guys because the game is so high stakes and he's scared to lose.

About half the time it works, and half the time it doesn't. But when you're losing 4+ a year in a conference where your three biggest rivals are probably winning 10/11+, that philosophy just isn't going to cut it.

Playing it safe en route to a loss is just so maddening and Gus has always done it periodically. "Don't want to put the ball on the turf here" he said as we lose by 10.

Malik got more targets than Schwartz IIRC. That’s not going to scare any defense.
