You do realize we made the final four last year?
Can't believe there are Auburn fans comparing CBM leaving to KD leaving

KD was a pinball inside scorer with no outside shot who more often than not was a net negative.
CBM was an integral piece to our offense and defense on a team that made the final four.
If we can't pay our contributing players on the back of the success we just had then we are not serious as a basketball program in this new era.

quote:Define the "we", I don't pay a dime to NIL. I can be disappointed he's leaving but I until I'm paying into the collective, I can't complain. The staff has a budget they have to work within and every scholarship player is being paid something...there is only so much to go around. They have to decide an amount for players based on available funds and that's it. It's a business now.
If we can't afford to keep our best players anymore then I might just be done with basketball.

Already working on his replacement.
I can’t blame him for leaving. Our NIl is fine and I’m not sure he’s going to get more than we can/were paying him.

"We" = Auburn and Auburn NIL. Its a joke we are still having to look in the cushions to able to afford players. I agree with what you said, the issue is that there should be more money period. Final 4 again and still penny pinching.

Addarin Scott just hit the portal. Not really a big deal, but not like we have the money to replace him either apparently.

You always seem to know a lot. Can CBM transfer to a SEC team since it’s Spring transfer?

Apparently CBM can transfer within the SEC if the MSU player is transferring to us now.

This offseason has been a major letdown. Team will be solid next year but no proven scorers at D1 level outside of Tahaad and Hall.

You are referring to the second portal window for football. Basketball only has 1 portal window so he can transfer anywhere

Correct. The BB Season ended in the Spring Semester so this is their first portal period. Transfers are not restricted like Football because it is their 2nd portal period in that sport.
My thoughts on CBM: Not that mature, won't play in the NBA, May make europe league somewhere, trying to get his best money now as it is probably the most he will make in a year ever playing. (Hope I am wrong & he makes it to a pro league making good $$) I can see him being upset at what others are making and if he is lower than them as he was a starter last year. We will have to wait and see how it goes but I think we will be fine.

Just read if CBM leaves and accepts another offer he will owe money to Auburn. His other team would probably be paying his buyout.

I'm not sure that's how that works. I think as long as he still fulfills his contract with whoever his NIL is with then he still gets paid.
I've seen it in football a bit.. player transfers, but still has to make social media post about the school he left. Not entirely sure how it works in basketball though.

College athletics has turned into professional sports without contracts. It's quite literally the wild west out there.

The rumor, I think started by Goodman, is that when we re-negotiated his contract, we put in some protections if he were to transfer or leave. So, this would be a more unique case than just normal NIL. Have no idea if that is true or not, but that is what is being alluded to.

This is what I read on 247, that Auburn put stipulations in his contract that he would owe them money if he signed with another school.

Next question is it actually enforceable?
