I think it really is as simple as that. I was good with Broome taking the shot but shouldn’t have been a play with him going to the basket, not a fadeaway. If we couldn’t get enough position/push then secondary should have been kicking to Pettiford to make something happen. Broome had Nelson on him which is the matchup we wanted but Broome settled for the tough shot.

Imagine how dominant broome could be if he didn't settle for those terrible shots so often. Prob trying to show NBA teams he can do it since that's what they want but man does it hurt us sometimes

Not sure what was special about their plan unless it was to rely on Nelson who had not been playing well at all. That's a gamble at best though it paid off

I don’t buy that. He wants to be treated equally then he has to act equally. I didn’t watch the game yesterday till the second half, but going back and look at the highlights, looked totally unnecessary. It’s hard to treat him the same as everyone else cause this is not a first time.
Exactly. IF he wasn't ours, we would crucify him. He is ours so some give him a pass. He is obviously too stupid to learn. He cost us our biggest game last year. It is so easy to get under his skin and teams are using it against him. Bruce should have put a stop to his antics a long time ago. Bruce is as complicit in it as anybody.

quote:Petty just gives us more options to win it in the final seconds. He can do a step back, drive with a floater, pop a mid range jumper, high off the glass layup or underneath dump to a big man. Broome is limited to backing his defender down and risk getting doubled and having to kick it out or forcing up a tough shot. Either way, Broome is going to have a tough shot to win the game where as Petty could shake the shoes off his defender and be wide tf open
but Broome settled for the tough shot.

Agree with all that it's hard too because we absolutely didn't want them to get the ball with enough time to shoot so you knew exactly when he would have to make his move making it easier to contest and double. All hindsight now,
if he had scored and locked up player of the year we'd all be singing his and Bruce's praises

quote:Dont think anyone is giving him a pass. Recognizing the situation and calling it for what it is, isnt giving a pass. CBM got elbowed in the back on multiple occasions by Youngblood. They had beef from the game before.
He is ours so some give him a pass.
Amazing how baseball players and umpires know the beef histories between teams and call it out pregame, but in basketball, its like the refs have no fricking clue. Dude did the crane in our guys face, no tech. YB elbows CBM in the back, no tech.
Hell, YB had to get a Band-Aid on his eye because our guys were fricking him up as payback for the first couple elbows. Finally CBM had enough and threw his own elbow and got the boot and rightfully so.

You're not comparing apples to apples. Bowing someone in the back of the head is not anything like protecting the ball.
It was a thug move made out of stupidity. There is no defending it, he was wrong. He has been a tech waiting to happen for a few games running now. He relishes in the conflict. Bruce needs to get in his arse and settle him down before these tournaments. We need him on the floor if we are going to make a run at the natty.

They went away from their guards who usually carry the offense and ran it mostly through their 4. They did a good job of throwing a bunch of screens at us and using the 5 to screen the 4 at the elbow and every one was a nascar screen meaning they were breaking to the basketball immediately. We adjusted better in the second half to those specific plays.
Nelson hitting those threes also completely changed how we had to defend him. Normally you just sag way off him and dare him to shoot. He’s a piss poor three point shooter but dude can absolutely get downhill and his bread and butter is driving. That also happens to be Broome’s biggest weakness on defense.

I remember Lambeer/Mahorn years.
They were dirty.
I got up swinging one time from a basketball play where the guy took my legs out from behind. No call.
I just think the game can be physical, but CBM crosses the line at times.
He literally forearmed the guy in the back of the neck.
It was bush league.

Did it deserve a tech maybe. Did it deserve an ejection. No!

If he was getting thrown out he should have let Youngblood have it. Young blood is a dirty player. Of course when you have Oats as a coach what do you expect. Wrong place wrong time right Oats.

Bottom line is he got himself ejected from a big game and hurt his team. That is on him and no one else
Posted on 3/9/25 at 1:53 pm to jangalang
It was worse than the Yale one imo… but neither deserved an ejection.

We are still discussing this??
CBM is a dumbass. He intentionally went after a player with intent. With physical contact to the head or neck area. That is textbook F2 with ejection.
The grand scheme of it all is CBM flops and grabs much like other players but when he can’t “get one over” on a player or a ref then he gets frustrated and you can see him going directly to foul and some are dirty.
Yesterday was extremely dirty and should not be a part of basketball. Anyone that is wanting to downplay it is only because they are a fan of Auburn or CBM.

Same guys bleeding over getting hit with a pose. My favorite though is comparing it to using elbows to clear space after grabbing a rebound

The ejection was weak sauce.

You cant even deny we would get hit with a tech if that was us. Insanity you keep bringing that up.

Ive seen elbows land with more force from clearing out than that weak shove you're crying about.
