Sankey has not given approval. Gus can give multi-year deals, but must also lower his buyout at the same time.

they should say his assistants buyouts, if they are needed, come out of either Gus's salary or his buyout(if he is fired) then he can have all the multi year deals he wants

FWIW it's being reported by almost every Auburn beat guy, AU loyalists and mercenaries alike
As for why we don't just fire him, I mean, that'd be ideal. Obviously they're trying to thread some needle whereby we (AU and Leath) save face, Gus gets to coach out the bargain he made but we don't do anything to add to the burden of firing him next season. I think at this point it becomes questionable as to whether the PR hit from just firing him and paying the buyout would be better in the longterm.

These nutless SOBs just need to sack up an fire Gus. Frick all this shite. Doing this type of thing basically hamstringing Gus, in order to wait to fire him next season for less money will not help attract quality candidates when we do fire Gus. We would be better to fire Gus and just move on rather than have a pissing contest over assistant hires. You cant do both.
