Cohen will probably sidestep Mantas out of an over abundance of caution since he is a coward

I've also seen speculation that he is still under his contract with the Euro squad until sometime in May, and they won't announce until that is done, similar to Jovic. There was an added delay with him as well.

Checking in for the first time in a while. Looks like significant downgrade in talent so far. Is that likely to change? Is there another window? Who is Mantas?

Heard he will sign as soon as that contract is up which, I believe is may 17th.

I think the exact opposite, there is actual depth here and not just 6 guys.

Extreme upgrade in talent at the 5 .

I think it's kind of a complicated question. Even at the 5, I think Keshawn Murphy is way more polished than anything we will see offensively at the 5 next year, BUT we will see much better defense and rebounding there and that's a better fit with the rest of the roster and play style.

Then at the 1 thru 4, maybe guys like SWA and ex-Freeman have more high end potential than the new guys but we have way more in terms of sure things in guys like Dowd, Freeman, Olsen, and even Kimble than we did in SWA, ex-Freeman, Magwood, Jovic. Really not even close.

None of those guys were really scaring anybody on the other team when the ball was in their hands.

Yea i agree, I don't think I'd necessarily say less talented at this point. Some of these guys for sure have a lower ceiling than say SWA or Freeman but I think they are also better than they are currently.

If this team is able to gel properly, where they will show a big improvement over last year is how they compliment each other. On paper, this team feels much more like a deliberate roster build. Last year was just a bunch of individual pieces that ended up playing basketball together. This team feels like they actually have roles and purpose to them.

I think that's right. I'd add that over the last 8-10 games Overton and Tahaad were both superb. Getting defense and execution around those two could yield great results if SP can get everything to gel properly.

The new guys look like rim runners mostly, but that is not nothing given their size and they are athletic for that size. I expected way more from Murphy on offense, but he was playing out of position. but he was not a guy you feed the ball to and expect something good to happen. Huge upgrades at 4 & 5 in every possible meaning of the word.

Mantas will be an immediate starter at the 3. Like I said earlier in the thread he will be our best player if/when he signs

Do you have insight on how any of it is inaccurate? I know nothing other than 247 shows us losing a lot more talent than we're bringing in. There is no one named mantas in the top 100.

Mantas is a European pro.

I don’t know if they do rankings.

HS- yes
Portal- yes
EuroPros- I don’t know if there is a site that gives them stars.

Nothing like trying to make claims about our teams talent level when you know nothing about the players or even where we are recruiting them from.

Regardless, acting like 247 is some kind true gauge is funny. We had the 9th ranked portal class last year along with 4 four star prospects according to 247. According to 247 that plus Tahaad should have made for a heck of a team. And those players made for a shite team and weren't nearly as good as their 247 ratings.

The transfers we have now are tremendously more balanced and make for a much more solid rotation, regardless of some arbitrary rating on 247. Particularly once we get one more wing, most likely the Euro guard Mantas folks are talking about.

I mean can 247, or any service, be wrong? Sure. But it's more laughable that a bunch of randoms on a message board would know more about these guys they had never heard of two weeks ago than people who do this for a living.

You're absolutely right about guys being potentially better fits and a more rounded roster, and that can obviously make a huge difference. I'm simply talking about talent.

I’m excited about having some size to protect the rim, and more shooters.

Do you think the rotation will be 8,9,10 players?

I saw we are playing Wisconsin in Nashville.
Any other schedule news?

Are we in the Las Vegas money games again?

Starter probably but I'd tap the breaks on the best player stuff. He wasn't a starter on his team. Granted that team probably beats all but a handful of teams in the NCAA but still that's a big leap imo. The safe bet is this will be Tahaad and Overton's team and the rest of the roster are complimentary pieces.

I could also see a rotation of this:

G Pett
G Overton
SF Olsen
PF Dowd
C Oboye/Ngoy

Really don't have a good feel on who will end up winning the 5.

Freeman we will have to see how well he is able to return from his injuries over the past season.

Mantas could and will definitely push to start at the 3 and give some backup minutes at the 2 if needed, so could possibly interchange him and Olsen depending on who we are playing.

"Mushalek"

Why even list him he's worse than lior. If he's playing were either wining by 20 or guys are hurt. He's a kid who wouldn't play at samford
