This years team is the best Auburn team I've seen with no NCAA cloud hovering above their head and the core of the team set to return next year the players are more experienced playing together and playing in big games as #1 no way That final four team that lost 10 games or players can be better than this years

Why doesn’t Green start at this point? I’m not one to question anything Pearl does, but he is clearly the superior pg that makes our offense click.

I think Green coming off the bench is a better move, Green is a spark to comebacks and one of the main reasons we have won a lot of games is our bench drastically outscoring the opponent

It’s nice to have scoring punch on the bench. Without Wendell we would have a couple of capable scorers on the bench but it’s nice to have that spark ready to come in

I get that, but how about we start with a spark from the tip? We’ve had some sluggish starts.

Did you see Pearl’s interview when he said the season flashed before his eyes? He is already a critical player on our team.
We have Davion Mitchell defense and Harper offense and we are making them both go to work.

I agree and that’s something to monitor. I think part of it is Pearl keeps hoping the starting group will come around to starting the game better so we could have the best of both worlds. I think if we lose one of these games coming up partly due to a slow start, a change will be made.

Yeah if the starters continue to struggle on offense I could see a shake up. Bruce has said that Wendell isn’t starting games but he’s finishing them which is what’s most important. Could boil down to if Wendell starts then the next rotation becomes incapable of scoring.
Zep isn’t near the spark plug Wendell is but he has one of the best assist/TO ratios in the country and has tools around him to make the offense go. In theory we should still be more than capable of starting hot, but we gotta start making that a regular occurrence.

I believe Pearl also said in an interview that when Wendell started games earlier in the year he would be too juiced up and play a little out of control so coming off the bench gives him a few minutes to settle in to the game

quote:Not to mention that Zep is maybe the best on ball defender in the country. He sets the tone for us defensively which is most important. Our offense will always come (outside of Mizzou) but our defense is what has carried us to this point and will give us our best shot at another final four run.

Greater Birmingham watch party for Alabama game next week. It's a back forty brewery. Sounds like brewery is opening Tuesday just because of this

Zep is also capable of scoring more if we needed him to, we just don't. Not on this year's team.
The man knows how to play his role. Last year at CoC his role was scorer, and he lead their team in that department. From 15.6 ppg last year to 5.0 currently, it says a lot about him as a teammate, and as a person, that he has completely bought into his role as a defensive specialist and been happy and thriving while doing it.

good observation.
Zep definitely is not having to be the scorer, which allows him to use his best assets.
HE has a good shot, and he has used it well at times, and he needs to.
He isn't the best at operating a fast paced offense as he has limited ball handling quickness on drives.
And sometimes you will see him and Green out there bc he other teams guard can shoot better if Green guards him so we use Zep on those guys.

The dismantling of Tennessee, Kansas, and North Carolina was incredible.
Then we went toe to toe with Kentucky and Virginia without our best player. (Essentially beat both of them without Okeke)
I don’t think this team has the offensive firepower to hammer teams in March like that. We could win it all but 2019 was absurd those last few weeks of the regular season and March. Everything came together. We looked like the San Antonio Spurs of College basketball.
12 straight wins before the "loss" to Virginia.

We need to win this year so I can finally get over that. Although that team so deserved better and will always be my favorite AU team for that run through the SECT and then what they did to get to the Final 4.

One thing Bruce is doing this year is a wonderful job of managing egos IMO. Green coming off the bench says a lot about Bruce and Wendall. Devan and Jaylin accepting their roles and making key plays for us says a ton about them and Bruce's ability to keep them engaged. Moore IMO will eventually be needed and so will Stretch...having all that talent plus egos and still finding ways to maximize them is a big deal.

First conference win to move to 1-7. Also first conference win since 2019-20 season.
We’re still in 14th in the conference. A&M has 1 win as well but it’s head to head over us. Alabama has 2 conference wins… both over AU.
Incredible that we won tonight. That’s UT’s first conference loss.
