I’m not dogging our defense but I won’t say I have conclusive evidence that our defense is better. Wait and see isn’t that controversial IMO.
I worry about that middle too. Fair is a load, but outside of him I think we are a little light in the middle.
I worry that Penn St will try to run it down our throats(even if their OL may not be the best seen), and that means our LBs will be pushed down to make tackles 5-7 yard from the LOS.
Just bc we are talented, doesn/t mean we have enough beef to hold a critical area of their offense.
We have no past games to know how well we can defend that area....

Okay, and what is the empirical support for the claim that we supposedly lack "beef"?
Tony Fair is listed at 6'1 330 pounds.
Marquis Burks is listed at 6'3 314 pounds.
J.J. Pegues is listed at 6'3 308 pounds.
Marcus Harris is listed at 6'2 279 pounds.
Zykeivous Walker is listed at 6'4 289 pounds.
Colby Wooden is listed at 6'5 278 pounds.
There isn't a lack of size anywhere on our DL. We run fronts where every guy with his hand in the dirt is 280+ pounds.

We have future NFL draft picks on every level of the defense. Stop clutching your pearls. Its ok to be confident in our nasty defense

Depth is an issue. We have no clue if TD has for sure turned the corner. I’m waiting to see for myself. I am doubting Thomas. And Missouri. We beat the brakes off Akron. And Alabama St. big whoop!

Their starting RB averaged 3.5 YPC on 20 carries against Ball State.
Playing devil's advocate here, but it sounds to me like PSU could have been looking ahead to this game. Sorta like how AU slept walked through the first half of ASU. The Wisconsin game is really the only one we should look at.
Penn St couldn’t run the ball in either game… they had some success in the 4th qtr vs Wisconsin, but we’re largely shut down.

Apparently Coach Hand brought the “clap” hut to Auburn.

"With Bo, you can tell when he drops back, he's [now] got 5 different options, instead of 1 or 2" -Sean White
Matches what we've been hearing

I hope he's right here.

Without specifically calling out Gus or the offense, Sean indicated that the offense was simplistic; he gave an example where the play only had one option, and if that option wasn't open, the QB is left scrambling around and looking like a fool
I'm already enjoying this new and unfamiliar concept called "Route Tree"

We all knew this. That is just part of the spread offense stuff. It is meant to be run fast and make quick decisions. If it isn’t there, take off. The problem was that Gus didn’t want that to be his offense once he wanted to prove his offense was appropriate for the nfl. He didn’t like being put in a box.
There are downsides to every offense so it’s not that Gus’s offense was just bad. It is just that we stopped playing to its strengths

Depth is an issue.
Auburn did amazing in the portal and filled every need. Depth for the secondary. Improvements in the middle of the DL. A go to WR that was originally a 5*
Auburn is set for a run this year

Look at any competent spread team and I promise you the QB has more than one option

I still think Sean White could've been a solid QB in the right situation

I’d argue he was when healthy

Do I remember correctly he played at least part of a game with an undiagnosed broken arm?
