Can somebody calm my nerves about this game? I have bad Gus PTSD who couldn’t win on the road against a team with a pulse. He’s gone, so we have that going for us.
Saturday will be an Auburn coming out party

the beautiful variety we’ve seen from the passing game and play calling.
Yeah, it's been good so far, but I've seen Bobo call some absolutely head scratching games when he was at UGA.
Here's hoping he doesn't revert back to some of those tendencies.

I feel real good about this game. Week 1 I was worried but having seen them week 2, their offense isnt scary enough to beat our D

Do you really know what our D is like? Our DL will actually get tested by competition this game.

Penn State's OL has not been very impressive so far, particularly the interior - as per their own fans. We're talking 2.8 YPC vs. Wisconsin, and "only" 5.0 YPC against Ball State.
Our DL has legitimate talent. Surely you can't believe that we're only looking good because of bad competition?

Nope. I’ve been bitching about our DL since Marlon and Derrick Brown left.
It’s going to take Burks and Fair to show me what they got against better competition.
I consider Penn State better competition. Sure their stats aren’t as impressive but they still won in Madison in a more competitive game than we have played yet.

Duh, they're a good team and the win in Wisconsin was nice. But you don't need to build them up in order to "question" us - the fact that we haven't played anyone yet and are coming off a bad season is enough in itself.
Wisconsin held the ball for just under 43 minutes (Penn State had it for just 17 minutes) and turned it over 3 times to Penn State's 0. They literally threw the game away. Even on offense, Penn State did nothing apart from a few literal blown coverages from Wisconsin. Their running game has looked very pedestrian, and their QB has a lot of the same question marks as our own.
Our defense is legitimately good. I don't even know why you you'd need to question that considering that it was the strong point of the team even under the previous lame-duck coach, and since then there has been no decline in coaching on that side of the ball.

Pass rush was shite
3rd down percentage was among the worst in the nation
We got pushed around too much at times against quality teams.
attrition
brand new staff and players
I have no reason to expect much until I see it.

We will find out how much better it actually is against PSU, but TD, Wooden, Hall, and Height are all physical freaks. Penn State's oline isn't great either. They are much closer to a middle of the road SEC team than a UGA or Bama oline.

3rd down % was awful last year, but among the best in the country in previous years. A little concerned about some of the zone and off ball man we have been playing under Mason, and some of the injuries in the secondary. Would be nice to have Simpson back for this game, but this will definitely be a big factor in the game on Saturday.

Definitely true, but once again their oline isn't top tier SEC and we did some work in the weight room this offseason. Not a huge concern for me here.

attrition
Personally think we added more than we lost on defense. Just hope we are at full strength on Saturday.

brand new staff and players
Definitely true. Glad we have had 2 games and 3 full weeks of game prep to sort out some of this. Their receivers are the strength of their offense in my opinion, and we have had some issues in the secondary. Secondary is definitely talented enough, and this is supposed to Mason's strength so hopefully they come prepared.

We have talented players and good coaching (HUGE upgrade on the DL) and those talented players have performed so far (see: all of the actual stats through two games). We can't control the schedule or who we've played.
So really, your points all relate to what we have shown in the past, under a coaching staff that is literally gone. We got pushed around too much against quality teams? Yeah, that's why we did a complete 180 in S&C and worked the crap out of these players all offseason.
Then you bring up attrition - but wait, I thought you said the DL was shite and got pushed around? So why are you now worried about the attrition of those same players who were responsible for the things you brought up LOL? Who do we miss from Big Kat, Truesdell, or Newkirk? This point and "brand new staff and players" literally contradicts the bulk of your previous points.

Sure, but this implies that you can't take anything away from our first two games - which is wrong. You can still decipher a semblance of talent level or ability to play, regardless of the fact that it was against two cupcakes. For example, the prior iteration that you are referencing to as your basis of comparison wasn't really generating much pressure against even the bad teams on our schedule.
You are also being obtuse by failing to consider what Penn State themselves have shown. Their starting RB averaged 3.5 YPC on 20 carries against Ball State. So their OL couldn't even push around an opponent that most certainly comes nowhere near us in talent.

Playing devil's advocate here, but it sounds to me like PSU could have been looking ahead to this game. Sorta like how AU slept walked through the first half of ASU. The Wisconsin game is really the only one we should look at.
Either way, I think we win. What's the over/under for this game? I think we'll see about 50 scored.

So you think unrealized potential means our pass rush is fixed or already better than last squad? Also I know we have talent, but what is our depth like? Are going to be able to rotate?

Well yeah Against Alabama State in the first half I was beginning to wonder how much our pass rush improved too.

I’m not dogging our defense but I won’t say I have conclusive evidence that our defense is better. Wait and see isn’t that controversial IMO.
