Not really surprised. Arkansas is the worst state in the union, people included.

Why'd you have to go and do that? Now the trolls will most definitely come. Expect most fans to agree we get beat.

We should beat them by 2 touchdowns. Wash St. is better than Arky State. If Marshall is able to improve this week the offense should get rolling. I suspect our run d will be legit. We won't be looking ahead and the offense has something to prove.

There is no way that our offense was running near its potential with Marshall at QB. Clearly, Gus/Lashlee were keeping Marshall on a short lease (rightfully so for a rookie QB) and I'd imagine Marshall does not fully grasp the offense due to the lack of presnap motions as well as different read option looks.
On defense, our DTs playing in the B gaps all night long (drunken recall) caused us to get burned inside. When you have a free center or guard to block Jake Holland, no shite they are going to ru all over you. I bet that against ArkSt that won't be the case due to the style of O they run
Adjustments on defense were pretty clutch in the second half and I'd imagine Johnson will be able to make better adjustments this week.
I don't see Arkansas State's offense playing into our weaknesses as much as Wazzou's did. Their defense will not be able to stop our run game as it is pretty dominant and Nick Marshall should play better as seen int he second half

I think this is the biggest thing people don't seem to grasp. WSU's offense is tough to defend especially for a defense going through a complete overhaul with players swapping positions just weeks before the game.

WSU's offense is tougher for certain personal types. Not having a solid coverage ability from your linebackers coupled with a limited pass rush opens up intermediate passing routes which WSU exploited big time. I thought compared to last year our ability to defend the bubble screen was improved but we could be better. With the exception of a couple blown coverages, our DBs did a decent job
While our front 7 will still be a weakness, the gaps played by the dline will improve our ability to face the run as well as the emergence of Monty as a significant contributor.
Also, let's not forget that Eguae and Sanders both excel in run support and WSU did not outside the guards frequently (who would when both A gaps are exposed and Jake Holland is in the middle). Considering both of them as well as Kenny Carter were effectively nonexistant due to the play calling of WSU, we should see a step up from the ends in the run game.
I'd imagine Carl Lawson and ELijah Daniels have an improved game as well seeing as they have one under their belt and can focus on the play at hand rather than the lights, fans and thinking about what is going on
I refuse to believe we will not see a step forward from our linebackers #posibarner

I just have to believe that from what we saw during the games, Gus and other coaches chewing off the arse of players that made mistakes, that those mistakes will be worked on heavily this week.
Surely Marshall and WRs spent extra time working on timing and control.
Hopefully holland burns himself with a curling iron and can't play anymore.
Where's my money man?

What kind of offense do they run?

I watched the game again last night and one play in particular stuck out to me. I think it was the 4th quarter, but we had a wide DL split and Frost comes up like he's going to blitz, but basically just sits at the LOS. The C snaps it and just totally blows him out of the way for about a 15 yard gain, I think it was. I don't know if that was a mental error on Frost or just a bad call, but there's no way any LB can take on a center at the LOS. They kept showing blitz and then backing out of it. He showed it and didn't blitz and just stayed right where he was and got blown up.

We've got to do a better job of getting a push on short yardage situations. Our OL didn't do anything on that 3rd and 2 in the first half and the 3rd and 1 on the first possession of the second half. There's no reason our OL should not be able to move Wash St's DL on 3rd and short. We have to be able to convert 3rd downs like that for the offense to work. If not, we send our defense right back on the field.

Yeah, I was hoping Nosa would outgrow his bull-rushing habit. It doesn't appear that happened. Shame
