Why do we continue to trot this kid out there for 45+ yard field goals?

No clue. He’s actually really accurate from inside 45 or so. This also shows you how spoiled we’ve been with kickers for the last 10+ years.

Bc we have no one else?
It doesn’t help that we ask him to kick 40+ yarders every time.

Because that's as close as our offense can get.

An anemic offense with a mediocre kicker isn't a good combination

Gus broke him with all those 50+ yard attempts last year.

He’s on a free ride to make those kicks. That’s on him, not Gus.

Everyone expected him to be his brother 2.0, including myself. What’s more surprising is that Gus still thinks this. I was hoping he would have went for it vs Uga on the one field goal attempt inside the 30 Yd line. I feel like a Bama fan every time Carlson attempts a longer FG.

Because punting from the opponents 30 yard line would not be a good decision?
Give Gus credit for recognizing that we have a better chance with Anders kicking than the offense picking up a first down.

If the kid is struggling from 40+ yards, then either start going for it on 4th or punting it.

Good Lord. What coach sends their kicker out 9 times for 50+ yd FGs? This ain't the NFL.

Keep in mind this was his freshman year too

Anders has the leg but lacks consistent accuracy like Daniel had on long FG’s. It’s asinine to keep putting Anders in those situations?

A big part of Kicking is mental. Anders has the leg but is lacking mental toughness and I think we need to recruit an outstanding kicker. Its a weapon we need. When he missed the extra point i was done with him.

I called him at as a freshman for being terrible. All of you ridiculed me.

You were right... consistency in a kick is key... without that you have no need for that player... truth hurts

quote:Wasn't that the word on him coming out of high school? I seem to remember people at games (and maybe on here as well) saying Anders's leg was as strong, if not stronger, than Daniel's, but he was no where near as accurate.

There is no easy answer on Carlson. Still think Gus is fine to let him work through it. Chop wood. He’s already proven he can make the kicks.
If we don’t trot the kicker out for 40+ FGs, then we risk the kicker becoming even more mental. Fans will also attach labels on Anders such as untrustworthy or useless when we fail on 4th down after leaving the opportunity for 3 points on the sidelines. Which will turn into a Bash Gus party for either not trusting the kicker, or not having a kicker that can kick on the roster.
