It was a dime. First thing out my mouth when it happened was Payton Thorne doesn't make that throw.

He threw a laser to KLS on the sideline. He’s got some work to do, but he’s got an arm and can run.

Mateer of Washington state had another big game against lower level competition. Over 300+ yards 4TDs and 65 yds rushing 9 carries. Yes it's New Mexico but I'm telling you this dude can play.

Add Luke Altmyer, Illinois to this list

Luke Altmyer is no different than Thorne - he is actually likely a downgrade. Thorne had a higher QBR in the Big Ten than Altmyer has this season.

They actually kind of look alike and have similar measurables too lol.

Anyway, Freeze needs to aim much higher than Altmyer, or if that is the best he can do from the "established starter" pool then he needs to target one of the high-talent top HS recruits who are maybe sitting as a backup or have played sparingly. Altmyer is just floating in the center of the range.

If Freeze wants to go big then going average is no bueno.

Thorne is average.

Kennesaw State HC availability is on Indeed if you are interested in getting back into coaching.

Kennesaw State just did defeat Jville's boy Kaidon Salter if you remember correctly

Wow that would be something to see.

Here is an update on Noland:

quote:

At one point in time, the expectations were sky high for Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Air Noland. Many thought that he would be the face of the future for Ohio State football at the quarterback position.

Even though he's still a freshman, the Buckeyes appear likely to believe that Julian Sayin will be their starting quarterback in the future.

In the upcoming offseason, there is a wide belief that Ohio State will have a three quarterback competition. Sayin, Noland, and five-star 2025 quarterback Tavien St. Clair are all expected to be competing for the starting job.

That being said, there seems to be a chance that Noland won't be around when that competition occurs.

hat far sideline throw showed that WW has an NFL arm, but the end zone corner throw to Perry was not good. He can learn to have better touch. You can’t teach arm strength through. You either have it or you don’t.

Jville, you have a good eye.

From the far hash, he threw that thing and I thought, oh boy thats a pick six, and it just flew in there.

I saw WW make that exact same throw in the all American game, and I was like oh yeah

I know we have to, have to have a portal QB for this next season, but the addition of Air Noland for the future would be quite interesting.

He was at Langston Hughes which is highest level of GA ball and had an unbelievable amount of yards and touchdowns. And his accuracy was 67%, thats pretty darn good.

Its just a new era of ball with nil and portal. I dont know how you would keep he, Walker, and Deuce if he signs, on the team.....and you are paying a good chunk of change for them and ALOT for whoever the transfer for next year is.

I kinda agree … seems like it would be better to aggregate nil funds to allocate to one stud qb rather than spreading thin.

Who knows, the problem might solve itself. I’ll believe the Duece deal when I see him on campus Dec 7th.

I liked what little we saw on WW …. he’s got the tangibles …. too early to determine if the intangibles are there. I like him to compete with whoever we bring in for the incoming class.

One thing is certain, we have some solid receiver talent for our qbs to throw to

This is a post from WSlay on 247. He's a former assistant coach that worked at MSU and still obviously knows a lot of people in the business. This is from a conversation he recently had with a current P4 assistant. Thoughts?

quote:

We were talking about recruiting in the current landscape, and the mix between portal and high school. He said, 'if it was up to me, we wouldn't sign a top high school QB. They cost way too much, and they're most likely never going to play here.' I asked him if they help with recruiting other players. He said, 'if you're on the right guys, everyone helps. Wide Receivers and Running Backs expect to play early...they think they're headed to the league by the time the QBs in their class are playing.' We went back and forth a bit. Interesting that he believed High School QBs helped raise NIL contributions more than anything...but it was essentially nullified because it went to that player...who he thought probably wouldn't ever play at that school.

I'd love to know what you saw from his outing to qualify this statement. Just curious, because this reads a lot like you watched him through orange and blue lenses - which is fine of course, but you should be honest if that is the case.

He made one impressive throw, but you could say the same thing about guys like John Franklin III (yes, you can find highlights of him spinning some legitimately tight throws in an AU jersey). Apart from that one throw, he pulled the ball on at least two of his runs when he should have just given it to the RB, and he of course fumbled needlessly. Out of 5 pass attempts, he had three legitimately bad throws: one that went right to a defender which should have been picked, one that was high over a receiver's head, and a third that was short and underthrown (in the endzone).

At the end of the day his QBR for that game came in at 0.5, which is obviously horrible and agrees to the actual play-by-play breakdown of his outing.

Let me be clear that I'm not making any long-term judgments on the player, but I'm legitimately curious why you "liked what you saw". If we are being objective, it was one good play on 9 total attempts. The runs up the middle are whatever plays against a cupcake opponent.

And by the way, how in the world is this guy just a red shirt junior?
