I don't have an opinion on Napier, even now. His trajectory on the field isn't great, but he had recruiting rolling up to last year. Freeze could be in a similar boat if he doesn't get the offense going.

I admit I was fascinated by the idea of Prime coaching Auburn. The drama around him at Colorado, and his high school recruiting make me realize what a bad idea that was. It would have been a spectacular disaster. But I was ready for Auburn to have an edge, and he definitely would have provided that.

I was always pro-Freeze. So far he's been what I expected, except for the crappy offense last year. He carries himself like a boss, all the media people like him, he's a straight talker, he fixes problems quickly, and he is a high level recruiter. I hope he wins enough in the short term because there is no doubt in my mind that he will be a long term success somewhere.

I was in on Deion until I saw what transpired upon arrival at Colorado. I was so relieved we got freeze after seeing our trajectory last year.

Wanted Kiffin when we hired Gus. Wanted Kiffin when we hired Harsin. Wanted Kiffin when we hired Freeze.

Would have been good with a Napier hire after Gus.

I was anti-Freeze, bigly. I respect the recruiting he's accomplishing and I'm hopeful for the future. I am hoping to eat crow if he takes us past an 8-4 record, ever.

Gotta win on the field and certainly can't get embarrassed by a NMST, at home, in humiliating fashion, ever again. Or eventually, the recruiting dries up.

I will admit I liked and wanted both. Good thing I have no say in any of that. I'd be waking up to bricks breaking windows on a regular basis, and get greeted at the airport daily by the guy that was so pissed about Chizik

Deion was a gamble that would have backfired.

Recruiting is something he can do but visiting recruits is not something he wants to do. His name would recruit some players alone but even then our future would be capped.

Wiltfong said this Tuesday:
quote:

“A lot of people are putting dates out there. Talking to Deuce Knight’s dad just tonight, I did not get the sense that there was going to be an announcement as early as maybe some projected,” Wiltfong said. “So we will see how it goes going into September if it gets to September. But right now, I still like where Auburn sits. Ole Miss is the dark horse and Notre Dame is battling to hang on.”

And today:

quote:

Auburn working for a couple big flips

I still like my On3 RPM in favor of Auburn to flip Lucedale (Miss.) George County quarterback Deuce Knight from Notre Dame. Ole Miss is also in the equation but the intel favors the Tigers. Knight ranks as the country’s No. 7 quarterback and No. 33 prospect overall. Perhaps we see something right as the season is starting up but Knight continues to work through his process.

Why does On3’s rankings suck so bad? And let me place on my tinfoil hat…Shull was the #18 player in the country, and now on their updated rankings he’s not even a top 32 player. So he dropped out of the 5* status.

The weird thing about this Deuce recruiting is we seemed to put an ultimatum on Juju to either piss or get off the pot, but now willing to drag things out with Deuce?

We need our QB to commit soon, or reallocate that NIL to Offord/Babalola/Other 5 star, and just attack the QB portal. We can’t hold back NIL funds for an iffy QB situation.

The statement should be “commit now, get paid, and help our class, or come back later when we may have .50 cents on the dollar for ya.”

247 has Shull as a 3*, the #32 OT

On3 has Shull ranked the highest, #24 overall. Is a 4* though

Freeze has basically brought the benefits people thought Deion would bring recruiting wise. And he’s a lot better from an X and Os perspective.

To be fair, almost everything we've heard is largely speculation in all cases by fans and by beat writers. I'm sure there is some truth to all of it. Deuce also, at least from the outside, doesn't seem to be playing as many games that were being reported with JuJu/his dad, so i'm sure that plays into our patience as well.

FWIW I still like Deion.

I don’t think he’d be successful at Auburn or any big program though.

its not a tin foil. Recruiting sites automatically will drop player rankings if they commit to Auburn. Sure they will bump up a few here and there just to make it not soooo obvious, but its still obvious.

Coleman’s HS HC just did an interview about Coleman. Posted on Al.com.

I don’t have a subscription but from the description it sounds like there’s no mention of an arrest.

Just in case you still have Bama friends with “sources” out there

Shull is probably a low 4 star if we are being realistic. He has a good on field demeanor and good feet. He will need to get a lot stronger. So maybe he can get 2 years in before we need him on the field. He could be a good one.

while it is ideal that we get a Qb in the boat, its not necessarily our only option.

My gut tells me Freeze was too late in the Qb recruiting game and actually did a hell of a job just to flip Clemson's Qb last year. Then in the offseason, Freeze struck out in the portal. Now Freeze is attempting to flip USC's or ND's while laying the ground work for '26 and beyond.

If we strike out on Knight, I'd look for a strong portal transfer or DTHB to take the reigns next year with a stud '26 Qb committed early.
