I only mentioned it because Freeze offered him at Liberty and now the offer from Auburn comes on the heels of our top transfer QB targets seemingly going a different direction. Why not offer him right away?

That's good.

We can use a good backup that Freeze likes and doesn't look to scare off any top QBs.

As many as we need to reach 85. NCAA approved it for this year to help schools figure out the transfer portal/Covid eligibility stuff

There is no way McCall is coming. It is what it is. Move on.

Leary is next in line it appears. Can we get him I have no clue. But there will be a few more QBs enter the portal before it closes and will be some that enter after spring practices.

This is not a 1 portal season process. I've been preaching this since recruiting improved. We don't have a traditional Auburn roster. It will take a couple years with things going well in recruiting and the portal to get the roster anywhere close to being consistent and able to compete for the west.

With Leary potentially out of the mix and McCall definitely out who are our next QB targets? The Hank Brown offer makes me think we have no other portal targets. I only say that because why would Freeze just now offer Brown? He could’ve done it day one.

I think you ideally want to layer in players, Brown's offer doesnt affect the fact we have to have a portal QB. You will have him as a true freshman, Holden as a RS Freshman, Ashford as a sophomore, and a transfer as a senior or covid senior.

Leary isn't out of the mix unless he has transferred somewhere.

There will be some entering after the playoffs. Among other positions. Vandergriff is not slated to be the starter at thUGA again next year. He’s a true dual threat QB. Keep an eye out.

Corch you are right it will take a couple of years. You know one of the things Alpine mentioned was the NIL and all these players and the cost.

All the guys were are competing against, well they have big NIL funds too.....and they arent chasing over 40 players. So not only do we have to manage recruiting but the exercise of balancing, within our budget, the maximum return on investment for the dollars we have in the budget....while telling Bruce Pearl to stay away from the pocketbook.

Ah the ole days when a few bucks to keep it down home cuz worked....

I’m literally talking about the potential third option if we miss on Leary

Option 3 might not be in the portal yet.

Behind Leary with McCall out. I'd probably lean toward Hudson Card but he doesn't have experience either.

It’s the dead period until January 12. Does that include transfer/portal payers?

No dead period is for high school players.

To start the spring semester at AU transfers must be enrolled at the latest Jan 19th.
