Would Gilbert move us into the top 20 today?
Posted on 12/13/21 at 2:56 pm to jvilletiger25
I think someone said #22
But Bobo could flip any minute. It’s all artificial until February but all these guys left in our board help move us up quickly. We’ll be in the top 20 tomorrow after Sledge and Rhym announce

Any chance Trovon can use that LA magic on De'Coldest?

Recruiting — Marquise Gilbert announces at 6 CT today
This kid’s recruitment has been wild. He was a 0* out of HS, signing with Bethune-Cookman. He played in 3 games before going JUCO and signing with Hutchinson CC and playing spring season. Now he’s a coveted recruit by a ton of top schools in the country.
Crazy.

Hopefully there’s a replacement Olineman.

I guess it’s just a reminder that sometimes the recruiting services aren’t perfect, and you can get late bloomers or kids who fall through the cracks. I’m excited to get this guy now

That's what kills me about the kids falling over themselves to get to Bama or anywhere else. If you are good enough, the NFL will find you. Green Bay had a kid playing DB last night with a pick 6. The guy was on the Arizona practice squad last year.......

Rasul Douglas. Similar story to Gilbert, actually. Unranked out of HS, 4* in JUCO.

Little worried about this.
Only names we’ve heard are Woody and Farmer. Confidence has been decreasing on Woody. Don’t know much about Farmer besides he’s a big dude

Slight uptick in confidence on Woody but he’s a Feb guy. Long ways to go

Can someone explain to me why 4 and 5 star OL are not beating down our door to play at AU? It's a huge mystery.

There are not many 4 and 5 star lineman. The ones in 2022 have been hounded for 2-3 years by the current HC. Harsin has been at AU for less than a year. TL;DR: A shortage of linemen and excess of schools needing linemen.
ETA
I looked it up. Source 247 there are 51 4 and 5* OLmen.

More and more often, the best recruits go to the best programs. And depth rarely ever seems to matter much.
Auburn needs to get the OL playing better. Hopefully longer relationships with the next class helps us snag a few more

Yes. We need to get comfortable taking 3* linemen and developing them. You can't ignore that position for 5 years and expect it to rebound in one cycle. Our coaches have to show they have skills to get people in the NFL.

I don't think we ignored it. We went after some the the top OL.. Broderick Jones comes to mind. I know there was at least 1 more. They both chose UGA at the last minute though and we didn't have back up plans ready to go. A poor for job sure.

Nothing wrong with going after the top guys, but you always need a backup plan. Oline seems to be a position of sign a lot of guys and find the best 5. It’s very hard to judge in high school when they’re usually blocking guys half their size.
