It still boggles my mind that the top kickers in the country never get higher than a 3 star rating. It is one of the most impactful positions on the field.

Even more than that, they’re mostly dropping in ranking & rating

Cody Parkey - 2010 - #2 K - #796 (0.8604)
Daniel Carlson - 2013 - #2 K - #1061 (0.8368)
Anders Carlson- 2017 - #1 K - #1242 (0.8353)
Alex McPherson - 2022 - #1 K - #1420 (0.8165)

Exactly!

Since 2000, I read somewhere we have had 6 kickers and they all are the top 6 kickers in our history. (Duvall, Parkey, Vaughn, A. Carlson, Byrum, D. Carlson).

So recruiting kickers, amazingly has been one of the major highlights of the football program over many many years.

Hopefully McPherson is the next one...

Yep. I’m afraid that’s what he’ll always be remembered for. He bounced back from it though. Hit the game winner in Athens later that fall and received a standing ovation in class for it.

Amazingly, he never had a kicked blocked in his 4 years at AU.

I may be crazy..............but if we needed a game winning FG, I would take Al Del Greco every time.

ETA had no idea, but he is the golf coach at Samford.

FSU hired Kenyatta Watson.. and yes this is recruiting related. He's plugged into every major recruit in Ga and a lot in the south in general. Honestly I wish this was a move we would have made.

Jay Fair just said he's announcing on the 20th

Scott Etheridge

I met him at a party my 1st night in Auburn my freshman year the night he kicked a game winner vs. LSU! His brother was in my fraternity as well.

Sorry, back to recruiting!

Not sure how to feel about Fair. But he said this about the school he’s picking:

quote:

"What stands out I'd probably say is their plan for the future," Fair said. "That sticks out the most. Even though nothing has technically been proven, what they want to do sounds pretty good."

I suppose that could apply to any school but that seems favorable for Auburn considering a new staff

Fair has a new CB to Auburn from the Texas site. High confidence

I think that quote was him talking about Auburn specifically. When talking about what was most important he said relationships with the coaching staff. He then proceeded to talk about how he was closest with the TCU WR coach but whatever, hope we get him. The CBs make me feel a little better.

He differentiated the staff from a particular coach, whatever that’s worth. At this point, we’re just trying to read between fuzzy lines but it’s hard for me to come away feeling bad about that interview. Coupled with the Longhorns guy putting a high confidence CB in for Auburn, I feel relatively good about this one.

But I’m ready for pain

July 23 - August 1 could be good for Auburn if Fair, Story, and Alston all go our way.

I really hope we get Fair. I like him a lot. It baffles me how he is just a 3*. He is electric with the ball in his hands

I'm hoping that Fair also sees that TCU has been in a downward spiral the last 3 years, and they still have the same coach.

While we are starting fresh, new coach, new offense, and a lot to be excited about with no WR commits for 2022.

We will also see if C. Williams can recruit well enough to bring in WRs from other states too.
