I’m very concerned with LB. We’ve just missed out on too many the last few yrs.

LB and OL seems like have been our weakness for 15 years.

Against my better judgement, I'm making plans to attend a game this year. Probably one of the first 5 before reality sets in so I'll at least have a good time

Why is LB a bad spot for us. T-Will brought in highly rated players. Actually players that the other big boys wanted.

I don’t think Woodyard will be ready to go by early season. I’m not sure Cam Riley can cover in space. Owen just needs to get better and become a better in space tackler. He over runs plays trying to do to much. Steiner obviously has to be the the starter in the middle or the backup to Riley. Plus if all seems as it appears the OL will be tied up with our DL freeing the LBs up to move around and make plays.

LB is a position that is as reliant on instincts as any position on the field. We’ve got some incredible athletes at that position but instincts separate average from great at that position. I think recruiting rankings/evaluations haven’t done a great job measuring that aspect

Owen is fine , it’s the others that concern I’m not sure are legit SEC or if they r, are too young.

We struggled mightily when Zacoby went out last yr Twill went all in on a couple that ended up elsewhere.

On3 is pushing Landen King as 6'5 and catching the ball.

He was still considered to be playing both receiver and tight end in the spring. Now, the 6-foot-5 220-pound specimen will be learning the ins and outs of the receiver position full-time.

That length gives me some hope. Anyone other's sites...

I’ve gotten myself caught up in the Calzada hype this summer, just reminded myself that he would be #3 on TAMU depth chart. If there’s a competition with TJ Finley for more than 2 weeks we are fricked. I’d prefer Ashford or Geriner over Finley.

I think I will wait. We probably have less then 2 weeks before we know who the QB is. No reason to hide who the QB is with 2 cupcakes to open the season. This is the part where you just have to trust the coaches to make the right decision that is best for their team and for their own coaching future it would seem.

I want whoever gives us the best chance to win.

Calzada’s claim to fame is the Bama game. If he can play like that he will be great for Auburn. The rest of the games he was average (LSU) or a turnover machine that took too many sacks- Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, etc. If he can dial back the turnovers to averaging less than 1 one a game and get rid of the ball quicker then Calzada will be fine. But yes, the ZC hype has been overblown up to this point. Finley is also too harshly criticized on this board as well. I don’t think he is a great starter but I think he makes for a helluva backup. He has the tools to get hott and maybe even make a Cardale Jones run as well. He has the best arm by a metric mile on our football team and every now and then he can fit in some great throws in tight windows.

Bo had a few ugly turnovers last year in the A&M game but still only a few turnovers overall. Only took a reasonable number of sacks as well. He didn’t make many fatal errors. Those that think we have been plagued by mistakes because Bo Nix didn’t have Tom Brady ball placement can be in for a rude awakening. Doesn’t mean that will happen- it all depends on continued progression from ZC or TF and their help, but still it can happen. Our QB is going to have to perform well this year.

I have not seen very much Hype concerning Calzada. I believe everyone doesn’t know what he will bring. I believe there is hope he can be better than Finley. I’m not confident yet he will start over Finley. If this is the case I don’t think we win 6 games.

I was hoping Geriner silently is growing in camp and can be the guy. Haven’t heard much about what he’s doing so that could mean he has a ways to go.

I agree we need good QB play for this team to exceed expectations. It’s early in camp and hoping Calzada improves with more reps.

Forgot about Ashford. Haven’t heard much about him either. Would love to have his running ability but my guess is his passing is inconsistent.

I think the most accurate criticism of Bo’s play was his tendency to bail too soon or hurry his throws even when given a decent pocket.

Sure, you could blame the OL for giving him so few opportunities, but a 5* 3rd-year starter should theoretically know the difference between good protection and bad.

Unfortunately from what I’ve seen and read, Calzada has similar issues with less physical abilities. Let’s hope that was more Freshman mistakes and being forced into a starting role too early than it is ingrained tendencies.

I concur, however, that we will live and die by our QB play.

That was Calzada’s first year playing but he’s a RS Junior. He was in the same QB class out of high school as Nix, Rattler, and Howell.

I think I’m just hoping that Calzada’s injuries were the reason why he regressed during the season. And now that he’s healthy he’ll play well. And there’s always hope that a QB’s second season playing will be better but it’s never a given

I keep forgetting how long he’s been out of HS.

At this point he seems like the “safe” choice to start this fall - not going to win games by himself but also less likely to get you beat because of his play. But we will likely need a lot more upside from that position this fall if we’re going to make any kind of progress.

That’s why the coup against Harsin (brought on by a poor first-year performance) is so potentially damaging: he may feel like he has to play it safe for now rather than build for the future with Ashford or Geriner.

Although at this point he may as well say to hell with it and go with the young guys anyway. Worst thing ghat happens is he walks away with $15 mill and a chance for a fresh start elsewhere.

Reports so far, Calzada has an NFL arm. Let's see how he is utilized before saying he doesn't have skills. It is clear Harsin wants his QBs to be 6'4" plus with big arms. He doesn't seem interested in mobile QBs.

Harsin’s son Davis better grow a few inches if he wants to play for dad.

Ultimately, the QB has to produce and not make mistakes. Something we really haven't had since Nick Marshall.

Stidham was underappreciated during his AU time. 6000 yds passing 36 TD's and 11 ints. He was damn good in 2017.

As for this year, I like the cut of Calzada's jib. He's the guy we need right now. I think he rises to the top as the starter after a couple weeks.

Calzone Cam will produce hot and tasty stats.

350 yards passing per game with 41 TDs And 4 interceptions.
