Nike and Jordan aren’t “exactly” the same. Jordan is Nike’s premium offering. Jordan gear costs about 10% more and they do attempt to differentiate it with different cuts, materials, etc. Same concept as Toyota and Lexus. Not saying Jordan is always better but it is different. Not sure why people think it’s all the same with different logos but that’s simply not the case.

Also, UA sucks.

Sure, the cleats (as well as their basketball, baseball, running lines) have improved over the past decade but when your product is literally the worst on the market the only direction you can go is up. Just look at the % of NFL and NBA players choosing to wear UA shoes (not those getting paid to) vs Nike and even Adidas. That alone should settle this debate. Add to it the fact that Nike and Adidas both have a much larger market presence and are viewed more favorably by the average consumer (due in no small part to the staggering % of professional athletes CHOOSING to wear their products) and you see the undeniable affects on recruiting athletes to your school.

On a less important and more selfish note, I’m so tired of having to stomach UAs fan/sideline gear. Their goofy assed designs are worse than the off brand stuff on the racks next to them. Nike fan gear has always been light years ahead. I think our dream scenario would be somehow signing with Jordan due to their high quality (Nike) and niche market placement. It would absolutely have a positive impact on our recruiting and brand perception. Since that isn’t happening I’ll cross my fingers we can somehow get on board with Nike.

Your logic is incredibly flawed . Athletes signing massive endorsement contracts is completely different than a school deciding what to outfit their athletes in. If Nike offered me $20 million and Burlap R Us offered me $100 million, I’m ballin in burlap. Many times these companies are also promising the athletes specifically designed equipment that they’ll personally have input on so that somewhat negates the “quality” concerns. Cam signed with UA bc they aggressively pursued him due to his Auburn connection. Curry signed with UA bc they allowed him to place a bible verse on his signature shoe and Nike said no. Money is absolutely “worth it” when your endorsements bring in exponentially more than your team contract.

I coach multiple sports and have to purchase the uniforms, equipment, shoes, etc for hundreds of athletes. I receive samples, presentations, etc from every apparel manufacturer you can imagine. UA is and has always been an inferior company to Nike. Nike consistently has the strongest offerings across all major sports and it’s not debatable. I could get into specifics but this post is already long enough.

Oh and lululemon does make great mens apparel. They’re really leaning heavily into their tennis line right now and they’re also testing out some golf apparel. BSN offers select lululemon apparel for team orders and it sells out before anything else. Granted these aren’t uniforms but they’re trending more in that direction every year.

I spent 4 years working the gate on that Bodega patio, right in the heart of Auburn. Feels like a major gut punch to hear that it’s gone now.

Like smuphy said, Cobb is already in. The #3 punter in the 2023 class is about to sign as a pwo as well

No we don’t. He’s had multiple run-ins with the law (couple of them felonies), 2 kids already, and has to “attend school” online because he isn’t allowed to actually be around normal students. It says a lot about their school system and football program that they even allow him to suit up.

Jeremiah Cobb is off to a strong start to his senior year. Link quotes him as saying he won’t visit anywhere else and is 100% solid to Auburn. Nothing really groundbreaking here, just thought I’d share.

I told y’all a few months back Cobb’s size shouldn’t be a concern

This is the truth and it’s bothered me for years. Obviously Saban has pulled a ton of elite prospects for YEARS now, and they’ve won multiple NCs and Heisman trophy’s because of it, but I swear they’ve had more PRODUCTIVE 3* guys come through than all other SEC schools combined. When they identify a 3* guy, chances are pretty good that we’d kill to have him. Saban identifies talent so well that the recruiting services had to literally change their formulas to keep up. Don’t know as much about UGAs roster but I’m sure you’re correct there too.

re: Most Improved?

Most reports indicate it’ll probably be WR or OL (for whatever camp reports/interviews are worth). Here’s a question though- Which of those two groups do we NEED to improve more? Easy answer is OL but our WR play was incredibly bad last year. If teams can continue to load the box and key on our run game then I’m not sure how much our OL improving will help- especially when you account for their objectively low ceiling in terms of athleticism. All that being said, the correct answer is still probably OL, but I do wonder what a breakout year for a few WRs would do for the run game and QBs.

Calzada’s claim to fame is the Bama game. If he can play like that he will be great for Auburn. The rest of the games he was average (LSU) or a turnover machine that took too many sacks- Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, etc. If he can dial back the turnovers to averaging less than 1 one a game and get rid of the ball quicker then Calzada will be fine. But yes, the ZC hype has been overblown up to this point. Finley is also too harshly criticized on this board as well. I don’t think he is a great starter but I think he makes for a helluva backup. He has the tools to get hott and maybe even make a Cardale Jones run as well.

This is one of the more sensible posts I’ve seen in quite a while.
Yeah, I have absolutely no idea what our Founding Fathers “were about”. You caught me… the political science degree, history minor, pre-law minor, and numerous courses I’ve taught on Colonial America and the influence of the Enlightenment Thinkers have given me so few facts to stand on. If only I could understand the people, influences, ideas, compromises, and debates surrounding the creation of our government like you, Corch.

Guess I’ll just have to fall back on the fact that I’m a more accomplished and decorated coach than you are. I’ll just be over here with all my rings, COTY awards, Al.com articles, and ex collegiate volleyball player of a wife. Hopefully you can find it in you to further gift us with your knowledge of what our Founding Fathers were “about”.
Forgot to add that Lincoln was a lawyer, idiot.
You say I want to “skim the top” - whatever the hell that means- yet the names you pull out are Washington and Lincoln? Nowhere did I single out Presidents; nor did I say that every single elected official who’s ever served was born into an elite family. Abraham Lincoln was not. George Washington absolutely was. The Washingtons were one of the wealthiest planter families in the colonies long before George and were the epitome of elite by any definition. He was rich and powerful literally his entire life. Nothing else that you regurgitated about him was relevant in any way.

If “guys on money” is your sweet spot then you would’ve done much better throwing out Andrew Jackson or even Ulysses Grant.

Go find some teenagers to flex on. I’m sure you can dazzle them with that beautiful mind of yours.
