Free throws must improve.

We will definitely be one of the top defensive teams in the country again. You have plus defenders at each position in Broome, Cardwell, KD, Zep, and Flan. If we can find consistent scoring and shooting it will be another fun year at the end

If Westry can come in and be that player, I think that drastically changes our upside. Having a consistent threat will open up clean looks for other guys as well. We will be stout inside and on D.

I'm pretty optimistic about this squad, but it will take some time for everyone to settle into their roles. I do think they have the "dog" mentality in them.

Always good to see that Allen hasn’t changed at all. Everyone knows when KD gets the ball and has it for more than 2 seconds he’s taking the shot. Broome, Jaylin, Cardwell, and Traore looked good they have to figure out a way to play through them.

Actually thought Allen looked good. Was glad to see he wasn't forcing the issue last night and played hard on both ends. Looked like a guy fresh off the stomach virus, didn't have the burst he had in the exhibition the other night. Wendell Green will probably lead the team in scoring but I think KD, Jaylin, & Broome will all avg double figures. KD's athleticism is just insane going to the hoop.

Hot take. Broome is an upgrade.

Scorching hot take!

I do think he is a clearly better offensive player. Has a lot more in the toolbag there. Kessler was just an absolute eraser on defense though and moved quite a bit better.

Still not sure what I think of Traore. We'll see what he's made of soon enough.

Kessler needed to be paired with elite perimeter shooting, which we are not. Broome is better for our guards.

Shot Quality

We were all hoping to see better shot selection this year and I think we all thought we saw that last night for the most part. Didn't make them but took mostly good ones.

Site that tracks it agrees. Gave us an expected score based on shots taken by both teams of 85-57.

Yea, without Jabari or Kessler, we are going to have to improve our shooting to compete at the level we want to be. Not a great start from that perspective.

The good news:
- we are deep and athletic… can switch everything… active in passing lanes, shot blockers, and can rebound.

The bad news:
- can’t throw it in the ocean standing on the beach.

Well it takes into account individual players and their shooting percentages in the past based on level of contest and time left on the shot clock and spot on the floor so in theory it should indicate we are due some positive regression

My point was if we shoot 4-25 when taking good shots, how bad is it going to be when we play SEC defenses who force us into more difficult shots?

One game in, I'll agree with Bruce:

"If we continue to shoot the ball poorly, we'll have concerns with it. ... I'm not concerned now."

The 4-25 was just our statistical result in a limited one-game sample, not statistically significant to project anything going forward
