I’ve been following AU recruiting long enough to sum it up in one statement:

Stars matter when we are getting the big fish and our class is ranked in the top 5; they don’t matter and or overrated when we are reeling in the 3’s and occasional 4 star.

I think we can all agree that the JUCO OTs are bandaids. We needed them and it’s worth noting that it appears the staff got both of their priority JUCO OT targets. Probably another situation where Zerier and Coffey knew they needed to commit or lose the spot.

I think most of us would be happy with the 3 HS guys in most classes considering two are composite 4* guys and the other is a 4* on 247. All three have drawn considerable coverage and reviews in summer camps too.

Looks like Dilly played a big role in the recruitment for most of these guys. He focused on relationships and obvious advantages that Auburn would have. Big departure from the seemingly jumbled OL strategy of years past.

4* RB Roydell Williams is visiting for the cookout this weekend. For those keeping tabs, he also visited for Big Cat

You're basing that on where rankings are now. Still a lot of shifts to be done with the class. 2 are 4*s now. Of the other 3 being 3*s at least 2 of them has a real good shot at being bumped to 4*s.

Not necessarily. Yes you have to have great classes on the whole to win big as most playoff & championship teams do each year but there are many good to great classes each year that don't produce championship level teams on the field.

Stars always matter on the macro level. You can't win championships without them. My point is there is still a lot of ranking movements to be made in the class & there are many individually ranked players who overperform & underperform their rankings.

I’ve always been told that OL is the hardest position to project from high school to college which is why so many 1-3 star OL prospects make the NFL.

And they haven't won a major championship. Winning P5 titles in college football aren't major championships. They would get bloodied if they were in playoff games.

It’s amazing so many Auburn fans want to give them the championship for beating a 3 loss apathetic Auburn team without a 100% Kerryon and Carlton Davis. If the championship stakes were equal for both sides I guess they would’ve no longer had the world’s thinnest argument.

Aren't the JUCO ratings, especially, lag behind usually? I may be completely wrong, but it always feels like Juco ratings seem to be the last to really get a good evaluation.

Hard to say. IMO, it’s very telling that he’s visiting for Big Cat and the grill out. They’re the two biggest recruiting weekends for Auburn in all likelihood

Hank South @247 released an article about him today. Roydell continues to say he’s 110% committed

Actually, if you look at a lot of the top drafted OL in the NFL draft this year, I believe I read that most of them were in that 6'5, 240-260 pound range out of HS.

OL evaluation is not even close to an exact science. I think that position, moreso than any other, is a bit of a crap shoot. So I'm not going to be too worried about stars next to the names. I think signing big, big OL classes and letting it sort itself out is a great thing to do. What we CAN'T do, is sign 2-3 OL in a cycle anymore.

4* DB Kendall Dennis is visiting this weekend. He’s got Auburn in his top group.

I think his 247 ranking is glitched and not appearing but all the 247 articles recently refer to him as a 4* guy. The offer sheet reflects that as well

Well sure, there is only one title each year so not every team that recruits well can win it. However, the first part of your statement is what's important and that is the one team that wins it is always one that recruits extremely well.
