So essentially what I'm saying is we haven't really had enough time to evaluate his recruiting. If you like the recruiting rankings though then we've done pretty good.

Will say this till I'm blue in the face. Firing Ellis Johnson would give Auburn it's 4th DC since Ted Roof left in 2011. All of the changes have probably stunted the growth of our current players and likely cost us a couple of recruits who didn't like the instability.

Ellis has been a DC for decades. I'm okay with giving him at least one more year to fix what was essentially a dumpster fire when he arrived

Ellis is not taking bad angles and getting torched in coverage.

We have significant execution and talent issues on defense.

Do we have the talent to be a alabama or LSU type of defense? Definitely not.

Do we have the talent to not be the doormat of the league defensively? Of course.

It's a talent and coaching issue.

I agree with this... most of our starters were not signed by EJ... the only one I can think of from last night was Adams at DT and maybe Ford at safety, but he was signed as a RB.

That's not to say it's all a player issue, but the man deserves an opportunity to get some of his guys in the starting lineup before we can him.

Our defense next year will be dramatically improved just by the improbed pass rush which helps DBs.

Same way Chizik coasted off Tubbies players

Outside of Muschamp and Chiz, is there anyone from the old Tubs staff worth bringing back? Those guys knew who to evaluate talent and coach them up. Think that's what we need more than anything right now

If Carl had not had an injury this is a totally different defense.

So our entire success is dependent upon a true sophomore with like 4 career sacks? I think that speaks volumes.

It's not our entire success but if you think that he would not give us the pass rush we need to help our corners out then there is nothing that I or anyone else can say to change your narrow made-up mind.

Starting to see some commits comment on the firing:
McBryde says he was surprised it happened but he's "pretty sure" he's sticking with Auburn.

Westry says he wasn't surprised. Also says he's pretty solid.

From FSU's 247:
Source says 5* DE Byron Cowart wouldn't follow Muschamp anywhere but he would if that place was Auburn.

You act like we would go from giving up 35 points a game to 20.

simple fundamentals would take us from 35 to 20, not 1 pass rusher.

Are you gonna keep calling posters stupid or will you actually give some insight soon?

This would be a much better place if you'd give your differing opinion than shitting on people in this thread with stupid gifs and memes.
