Do you not understand what the threat of Marshall keeping the ball on the zone read does for our running backs?
Both have very positive affects on RBs in different ways as long as you have an OL that can block well.

exactly. You don't HAVE to run zone read to have a prolific offense. Being balanced will have its benefits. I LOVE being able to grind out yards, but i don't care if we get them through the air or ground at the end of the day. Gus seemed to do just fine with a pass-first look at Tulsa.

I'm not saying we can't have a good offense with a throw first QB. I'm just saying that I, personally, will miss the read option the way we've been able to run it the last couple of years.
Also, yes I understand how a good passing attack helps out the running game but we what we did last year offensively was historically good. I don't see it benefiting us to those levels.
I also don't think we will have the personnel to sling it around next year with our presumably entire WR corps leaving.

It's like you think we are replacing Nick Marshall with Peyton Manning

Yea, I mean Johnson is definitely as mobile as say, Tahj Boyd when he was at Clemson. He isn't going to be a damn statue

IF JJ blows up next year, I wonder if he will go pro. He has the frame.

Exactly and I made the point if JJ is solid at the zone read we are golden. I don't think we have seen him run a lot because Gus hasn't asked him to. I believe he will be better at it than some have been giving him credit for.

He definitely still has work to do on the zone read for sure, but you don't have to have 4.4 speed to be effective. I mean hell, look at Kentucky's QB this year. They are pretty similar build/athletic ability I would say. His running ability works just fine. Will JJ be able to execute it as well? Yet to be seen, but his athletic ability won't be what is holding it back.

Cam Newton didn't even break 4.5 at the combine

He was a Mr. Basketball runner up and frequently ran point at Carver, people underestimate just how athletic JJ is since he never seriously ran the zone read

We will see more inverted veer but it will be punishing for opposing teams

He ran for 706 yards as a Sr in high school. Yes, that's high school competition, but guys that are statues don't run for 700 yards in high school.

Considering how he torched teams through the air in HS, the fact he ran at all is impressive.

Yea, people just need to go rewatch his game against Auburn High. Just watch it. That defense for Auburn was really good and has quite a few D1 players on it.

I'll consider him the annual Bama-trolls-Auburn-on-NSD recruit..
Until he signs.

Win / win with JJ they stack the box or spy him he can torch you. If they choose to completely ignore him as a runner he's plenty athletic enough to pick up first downs with his legs then hopefully slide
