I like this guy because he looks like Ryan Mallet and Jon B's little brother

Also, I have missed Volnation

This really sucks. This guy was one of my favorite recruits and I really thought we had him in the bag. I don't see why we even recruit the state of Alabama. When was the last time we signed a quality recruit from the state of Alabama? I say take the funds and redirect our efforts to other states. There is plenty of talent in states like Ohio, Virginia, DC, and Florida that we can tap into without wasting the recruiting time, energy, and money on players that are either marginal to begin with, or that will eventually sign with Bama or Auburn.

UT must have the most horrible insiders ever...

Yesterday afternoon, 5 of 8 of the "analysts" that predicted on 24/7 said Auburn. This morning that changed to 1 of 8. And we just happened to have offered Davis this morning and he committed on the spot.

Yep. SDH told the coaches of both teams yesterday where he was going, so it makes sense.

I'm really beginning to think we're just incapable of landing top-flight LBs with Saban at 'Bama. I don't blame these kids. They win titles there along with getting prepared to be a 1st-3rd round draft pick. Sucks big-time. Gus has got his work cut out for him.

I'm holding out some hope for Tre Williams just b/c he's in Mobile and Craig usually owns Mobile in recruiting, but I'm not overly optimistic.

UT and LSU fans have the best online meltdowns in the SEC

Now that Hamilton to Bama is official, does anyone know what this staffs philosphy will be regarding players that choose Bama over Auburn? The fact that Davis was offered and accepted ahead of this announcement be their way of setting a precedent going forward regarding flipping committments?

We put in 5 times the work to get SDH and still chooses Bama. Absolutely sickening. We rolled out the red carpets and more for that kid.

Coaching staffs can put in all the work they want to, but it's hard to compete with national titles and pumping players into the NFL.

I understand it would've been hard for any coach to come in here and compete head-to-head with Saban, but this is the exact reason why I didn't want Gus.

Pretty effing awesome then that we reduced our LBs from 3 to 2 isn't it?

The star position is also a tweener position that Alabama and Georgia don't recruit in terms of the type of athlete that plays those roles. Essentially all those "star" type players are super athletes that don't fit in anywhere but with us Also, we are selling them on a position that is like the Jack LB for Bama. It is sexy sounding "star"

Ellis Johnson is going to have us out recruit by our scheme alone

Pitching a specific position such as the "star" to specific recruits is a plus, but kids want to 1) win and 2) go to the NFL. If we don't start winning and putting some LBs in the league, it won't matter.

Our last LB to be an impact player in the NFL was Karlos Dansby. That's ridiculous.

Absolutely, I don't blame any LB or RB for going to bama right now. Until we start winning and putting more players in the league were going to lose these in-state guys. Chizik is the gift that keeps on giving

Deshaun Davis has a 9 rating for instincts on 247. I really like that. I feel like we haven't had a LB in a long time with natural instincts besides Bynes.

Watching his highlights, I can see why. He was dissecting plays left and right. He was also extremely good in coverage.

His size is probably the only thing keeping him from be rated high and sought after by the bigger programs (even though he had offers from Auburn, Florida State, and LSU).

So we miss on Watson, Cornwell, Park, Grier, Hensen who else is there lol
We have not lost Park yet. The staff has made him the top target.

Also great scouting report from ESPN on Deshaun Davis.

quote:

Davis has the height and weight for the inside linebacker position at the BCS level of competition. His frame appears capable of supporting additional body mass over time, although a growth spurt would be helpful. He is a tough customer who tackles very well. He is consistent in space demonstrating the wrap and finish needed to knock ball carriers back to where they came from and doesn't allow leaky yards after contact. Displays good edge blocking ability as a fullback. He brings his legs with the leverage needed to finish. Also flashes release route potential.

We see the toughness and athleticism needed to do a variety of jobs successfully as a special teams player. Does a very good job with key and diagnosis reaction skills when defending against the run and pass. He is quick off the mark and demonstrates outstanding instincts with a nose for the football. He is a downhill run defender capable of stacking at the point of attack. Shows the quickness to avoid blocks and penetrate across the line into the opponent's backfield. Moves through traffic very well, showing sideline-to-sideline range. He displays the ability to open his hips and drop for depth with eyes on the quarterback. Shows good underneath route awareness with a feel for receivers in his area. His athleticism suggests potential as a man coverage defender. He has the ball skills needed to make the high-point interception. Is effective rushing the passer and shows good first-step quickness along with the agility needed to avoid and step over the low block when rushing off the edge. He walks up into the line to play from a three-point stance demonstrating the first-step quickness needed to beat offensive linemen across the line.

His intensity and motor are what we look for when evaluating the inside linebacker position. Davis possesses the toughness and athleticism needed to play early at the BCS level of competition.

Maybe this one isn't quite over yet... I wouldn't consider it over is he were committing to Auburn today, at least.

@Smuphy fwih, he (SDH) was told on the phone that if he commits elsewhere his spot will be taken (hence the Davis offer) for good.

why would we hold a spot for any prospect who was committed elsewhere?... the guy is a EE, as well... all the more reason to move on.

Hamilton is a solid MLB prospect, but we'll be alright at the position. I'm also curious to see how he looks with the added weight and pads on... camps are one thing (he was MVP of the rivals camp), but his junior film isn't anything special.

Dang, kind of surprising to see that SDH is shorter than Dee Milliner. He's around 5'11 and not 6'0-6'1 like originally thought.

Question: Is it legal to have former players attend a recruits announcement? Can we have Cam have his picture made with recruits off campus, etc.?

Millner's from the Montgomery area (SEHS) so they may be related or close friends... otherwise, it does seem a little odd.

Stephen Davis attended Lattimore's announcement back in 2010... no one every said anything about that, granted he didn't pick us.
