Haven't had time to keep up with recruiting this past month.. Who's the next commit going to be? Who do you think we'll close with?

The D in 08 was pretty good until about three or four games into the year. The offense couldn't sustain drives.

The d in 08' did awesome for being on the field upward towards 38-40 minutes a game.

Pretty big difference in the '08 and '09 defenses...

If you take away the 500+ yard passing game from the Outback Bowl, in 12 games the Passing D was relatively similar, with the main difference coming in Rushing yards.

Opponents in 2008 also ran 778 plays against our Defense, compared to 945 in 2009.

Also, the D was on the field for an average of 29:48 a game in 2008. I can't find an average, but I would believe that that # would be in higher in 09.

If anything, I'd say Gus' Offense led to the demise of our Defense in 2009 with it's 3 & outs and HUNH approach.

But still, that D in 08 wasn't great, especially when you compare the fact that total # of snaps in 09 was 170 more than 08. If you averaged that out, I'm sure the #'s would be incredibly similar.

From the d in 08' to how much it changed the next year with mostly the same players, it was all roof.

Excpet we lost Sen'Derrick Marks and Jerraud Powers to the NFL. Lost Trey Blackmon, Bo Harris, Merril Johnson, Chris Evan, and Courteny Harden all from the LB corp. Roof basically had two LBer in 2009, Bynes and Steven. The man was forced to start Adam Herring at LB, that should earn him a pass

Roof gets no pass. He is too soft as a coach, and brings little discipline.

That was the year we also lost Spencer Pybus correct? shite on Spencer all you want, but he had heart and would have helped the linebacker corps in the next couple years.

Roof did get a pass. He was kept until the end of last year. We won a NC despite his Defense. He is too soft on his players.

Yeah. I forgot about him. He did well as a true freshman. Very football smart.

Chiz emailed a PDF power point to him. I heard it was a big hit showing the advantage auburn has with grass quality over UGA. Commitment switch coming soon....

No way Chiz could get rid of him during the season last year IMO.

While this is true, Chizik is still the head coach and a head coach should never, ever allow that kind of attitude to permeate the defense, especially if your background is defense. Maybe Chizik knew he was getting rid of Roof before 2011 even started and just couldn't fire him after what happened in 2010, but still, as a head coach, you have to step in and make sure that doesn't happen.

Nooooo, NIck Fairly, Josh Bynes, Zac Etherige, and 1 or 2 more won that natty on defense no Roof

ETA: go on youtube and watch the first drive of the USCe game from 10' Nick had 3 tfl on the first drive

some of you guys just need to let it fricking go... the guy has moved on, and it's 2012... appreciate what roof did in 2010, and be thankful for who we have now.

Bj was committed to us at one point right? Did his offer not carry into Chizik era or did he decide to take his chance and drop us?

He was, I think he had hopes of playing qb though so took another offer. I think he's at Troy maybe?
