I think I was pretty clear. We do not have the elite talent guys on our roster right now, period. We have swung and missed a lot the last 3-4 years.
We are not going to be beating the teams with elite talent like Bama, LSU, UGA, UF, and maybe A&M until we get some of the guys with elite talent like Lawson, Foster, Adams, etc.
If we had Bobby Petrino, we might. But we don't. We will see pretty quickly how good of a HC Gus will be though. We have enough talent to compete middle of the pack right now so we will see what happens.
But we won't be competing for any championships until we start landing some elite players as well.

Ah, okay. Something I can work with, with you. I think you've hit the nail on the head: we are going to be an offensive team, first and foremost. And for that, yes, we do have as good or better talent as anyone in the country, let alone the league. (This providing Marshall works out.) We've got a line that -- on paper -- other teams dream of getting; we've got the WRs, in spades; we've got the RBs and TEs/HBs. We've got great talent on offense, except a proven QB, which has been addressed.
Yeah, "defense wins championships." I get it. And coaches are working on it, and I agree with you, we've got to hit on some of the big time talent. But we thought we had big time talent on the DL last year. What did that get us? 0-8.

You think we flip Harding and Sutton so you've obviously been following the process...and you can't come up with 6 more names?
I get it, though. There's so many names that have been popping up, I can't keep up, or figure out our class.

Not that I think we get or would take. I mean I could probably come up with some lower rated guys but I don't think we should just fill this class for the heck of it.

I for one would be jumping for joy if we sign foster, Lawson, bower, Johnson and the rest of the committed class. We went 3-9, fired our whole coaching staff and have gone 1-4 against all of our major rivals in the last 5 years. Why the hell do we deserve a top 5 class? Foster and Lawson are some of the top prospects in the last 5 years. Johnson could be our first multi year starter in years.

We currently have 2 players on our roster that Rivals has ranked higher than 5.9 from the 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 classes. They are Kris Frost and Trovon Reed.
That is it. 2 players on our current team and only Frost is a "5 star". We do not have any rated higher than 5.8 from the 2009 class.
Gee, think you are cherry picking much? Using one of several recruiting sites and ignoring the players that transferred and went pro from our team?
Dyer, Shon Coleman, Lemonier, Westerman, Mike Blakeley and currently Robinson and Lawson to go with the mentioned Reed and Frost were 6.0 or higher for us. There are barely 25 players in any given year that are true can't miss 5 stars on every site. Nobody is going to build a team out of those.
We have tons of 5.8-5.9 type talent on our roster, which should easily be good enough to compete.
A&M had 3 rivals 6.0 and above types from 2009-2011, all on offense, and of course Manziel was only a 5.7.
LSU had like 10 rivals 6.0+ from 2009-2012, but their most successful players were generally the 4 stars: Michael Brockers 5.8, Morris Claiborne 5.6, Mingo 5.9, Minter 5.8, Mathieu 5.8, Montgomery 5.9, Eric Reid 5.9, Simon 5.8, Odell Beckham Jr 5.9. Anyway, that's a crapload of NFL or soon to be NFL players that aren't 6.0+ and are quite elite.
Bama has a ton of 5 stars, but they also have an equal amount of 4 and 3 stars that are going pro. Guys like Warmack 5.7, McCarron 5.9, Hightower 5.8, Dareus 5.7, Ingram 5.8, Lester 5.8, Upshaw 5.9, Carpenter 5.8, Lacy 5.9, Dial 5.8, Hubbard 5.8, Moseley 5.9, Sunseri 5.6, Depriest 5.8 (the fact Rivals had him as a 5.8 is flat out retarded).
Anyway, you get the drift. A large portion of these pro players from Bama, LSU, and others are not 5 stars or the so called can't miss guys. We simply need to coach up the guys we have and actually get some effort.

I read it and I liked it. I will sum it up....Lsu and bama develop players and AU has not been.
We will compete when we start.
We will compete when we start.

No, I wasn't. I figure any site would show the same.
And I compared players currently on rosters ranked higher than 5.9 and the result was Bama 14, AU 2 so it is apples to apples. Bama has signed 18 5.9 or higher and that does not just mean 5 stars as many 4 stars get the 6.0 rating (Trovon Reed being one of them).
Now you can talk about guys leaving or going pro, but other teams have that happen as well.
Fact remains Bama has 14 player that were rated as elite out of HS (by rivals) on their current roster and we have 2.
We want to compete for championships, we have to land, keep, and develop some elite talent as well as the good talent we currently have.

And our 2 have sucked so far.

We had 7 5 stars from 2010-2012 based on Scout, and that doesn't include Frost. ESPN and 247 have Dyer as our only 5 star from 2010-2012. They all vary wildly.

And Auburn has signed 15 5.9 or higher from 2010-2012. Also, it's 14 to 3 (you forgot Blakeley), not that it really matters.
Keeping and developing the talent is our major problem at the moment. We are never going to get as many 5 stars as Bama is getting at the moment, we aren't a state school so it's just not really doable. No reason we can't get constant top 10 recruiting classes like we had under Chizik, but if you are expecting us to start getting 4-5 5 stars a class you are going to be waiting a long damn time. That's just not a realistic expectation, because it's never happened for Auburn ever.
And it's silly to say we need that to compete when we just won a national championship with Dyer and Cam being the only 2 5 stars on our entire roster (and Cam was really only a 5 star on rivals, he wasn't even close on the other sites as a high school prospect or juco prospect).
The fact that Bama is recruiting talent out the ying yang and winning championships like crazy doesn't change what we need to compete.
Texas A&M beat Bama and competed just fine in the SEC this year with a roster that was pretty much comparable to ours from a recruiting standpoint (actually much worse from a recruiting stars standpoint).
This difference is their staff actually developed their talent, and our coaching staff was led by a retard who let the inmates run the asylum.

A pretty good number of 5 stars wind up flopping horribly, which is one reason it's silly to call them elite or think that we have to have them to be successful. Jeff Driskel is another perfect example of a 5 star dud, dude is a terrible QB. Auburn actually has a long list of 5 stars that were way overrated and terrible, going all the way back to the can't miss RB we recruited in Bo's class doing nothing, and Bo winning the Heisman.
