Based on today I'd say top 1. This was by far the worst performance in the NFL today.

Did you see Jax.
They were dominated by the crappy Texans.

Hot takes and knee-jerk reactions everywhere.

The product speaks for itself. They looked like shite all Pre season and everyone made excuses for it and continued to look like shite today. At some point, you have to recognize the product is what it is.

At some point, you've got to quit doubling down and call a spade a spade. They were unprepared and sloppy as shite with a ton of new players. They had 3 preseason games against live competition to work on it, and the new staff thought they were better off watching on the sidelines. That's on them and he admitted as much in the post-game presser. He didn't have them prepared and that's on him.
We dealt with the cocky "smartest guy in the room" bullshite out of Shanahan...hope it's not the same thing with Smith.

Shanahan actually was the smartest guy in the room though. Also, I thought Smith did great work in Tennessee and still like the hire. The problem is this team needs a total teardown and rebuild but can't even start it until Matt and Julio's dead money is off the books. They need to choose between rebuild and contend but they're trying to do both, which is stupid.

yeh, to only choose a WR

That’s the Arthur way.

It’s a talent issue too. We overpaid undeserving players for a long time under Dimitroff. It’s going to take time to build back from that.

Yea, the only team that looked worse than us was GB.
The Falcons could very well be landing the #1 spot this year. The OLine is God awful and Matt Ryan looked lost in the 4th quarter. Honestly, that didn't even look like an NFL team.

I watched a lot of football yesterday. The Falcons simply cannot compete with most of the teams in the NFL. They do not have the talent, it is that simple. We do not have a vaunted offense any longer. We have a good WR, we have what could be a great TE, and that is it.
I still think Smith is a good coach but it's very clear we won't know until the Julio/Ryan contracts are gone. You cannot build your own team with those things counting against you.

Agree with all of this. Our fans drastically overrate this roster. It's almost unfair to judge Smith and Fontenot for about two years while the salary cap situation gets cleaned up and they can actually start adding talent to this team.
This is going to be a brutal 2-3 year process. I think the front office needs to take a long look at this from a realistic standpoint and consider trading Grady Jarrett. He would bring back a haul, and he'll be in his 30s (and past his prime) by the time this team is competitive again. Jarrett would bring more value in terms of draft picks and building for the future than he would being a great player for a terrible team that is going nowhere for the next few years.

It's game 1. Relax.

It was Arthur’s way before TD got here. He’s always approached things in a “let’s maintain and rebuild at the same time” methodology.

But to lose by 26 at home to a 4 win 2020 team with one of the worst QBs in the league is still surprising.

Which is why they could have went in another direction instead of trying to quasi rebuild a shite product.
Their were several QBs available in the Falcons draft slot and Hayden Hurst was still on the roster providing decent TE production instead they drafted a hybrid WR/TE guy hoping for true WR production out of him as the replacement for Julie Jones I guess in the offense and didn't really address the aging QB situation or much else on the roster. It's now at the point to where the team is in a forced rebuild. They should probably look at the deadline to unload guys like Ridley/Ryan and try to get some capital moving forward because it ain't good.

If Pitts was the best guy on their board, and they truly didn't like Fields, I have no issues with drafting him. Given how much rookie TEs tend to struggle, he's a guy who can be up to speed when Ryan's replacement comes in. Supposedly, they were taking Lance if San Francisco didn't take him.
My biggest issue with what they did is they didn't pick a lane. They should have tried to unload Ryan as well as Julio and kickstarted the rebuild that is inevitable.
My unpopular opinion is that this roster is so far away from competing that they need to at least considering Jarrett because he'll be past his prime when the team gets good again. Jarrett could probably bring back a 1st and another mid to late pick
