I would have been fine with a rebuild. I think the contract was to much to swallow and thet were forced into quasi rebuild.

But who knows.

I definitely think this was a huge part of it, but I also would have been alright with cutting or trading Debo to be able to move off of Ryan's contract this year (which was supposedly the other option besides restructuring).

It cannot be understated how bad the last regime fricked us. Matt Ryan is playing on the worst contract in the sport right now.

They should probably look at the deadline to unload guys like Ridley/Ryan and try to get some capital moving forward because it ain't good.

Ryan's contract is unmovable.

Next topic.

I just can't believe we have a quarterback that is paid like Drew Brees or Tom Brady with no hardware, and there is literally nothing that can be done about it.

Which is why they could have went in another direction instead of trying to quasi rebuild a shite product.

Their were several QBs available in the Falcons draft slot and Hayden Hurst was still on the roster providing decent TE production instead they drafted a hybrid WR/TE guy hoping for true WR production out of him as the replacement for Julie Jones I guess in the offense and didn't really address the aging QB situation or much else on the roster. It's now at the point to where the team is in a forced rebuild. They should probably look at the deadline to unload guys like Ridley/Ryan and try to get some capital moving forward because it ain't good.

They could have drafted a QB yes but the reality is our team is crippled the next two years until these contracts are off the books. We also don't have the talent to compete right now with ANY qb.

The big value of the rookie qb is in their contract. If we had drafted a qb I think its a tough pill to swallow that we are losing 2-3 years of their rookie contract bc our talent is so bad.

I think the better approach is to start trading players for whatever you can get, draft BPA, and pray you land your franchise qb in the next draft or the one after. In theory we could have a more talented team in 2 seasons when we draft that rookie qb.

ETA now if fields becomes a top 5 QB in the league it was obviously the wrong decision but the jury is still out on him

Both are all-time greats and both are Super Bowl winners. One just happens to be the hands down greatest of all time.

One of them has 7 and has been in 3 more.
The other has one.

Ryan is a coaching brain fart away from having as many as Brees.

If we’re going to play the if game. Without the worst officiating call in history, Brees gets to play in another Super Bowl and have a great shot at winning it. And if you think Ryan didn’t play a major part in that epic choke job, you’re delusional.

Brees was gifted the NFC championship game vs the Vikings.

But I was not playing the if game. In fact, you made my point. That Brees is way closer to Ryan than to Brady.

In no way is Matt Ryan close to Brees. But I get it. The one solace Falcon fans had was maybe the Saints would be shitty this year like them. Sorry, but that won’t be the case. If you keep going after our front office guys, maybe, maybe it will get better.

Didn’t say this.

Blah blah blah. Not relevant but typical and expected.

Football is a sport for me. Not life.
Sadly you got the double whammy by following Nola and LSU where that is life.

Says "Brees is way closer to Ryan", but then says he didn't say Ryan is close to Brees. Okay.

Nice edit.

I said Brees is way closer to Ryan than to Brady.

I don’t agree at all with your conclusion. To simply rest things solely on post-season success is crap. Especially when for your entire career (except last year) you were gifted a division title before the regular season started due to the utter incompetence of your division rivals.

My point was Ryan is paid like Brees, and I don't see any trophies anywhere.

I don't think Ryan is anywhere near is good as Brees either, no knock on Ryan, but he isn't worth the contract he got. I hate TD.

Only guy I see worth a look in the next year is Matt Corral and he's a cocky headcase.

Fair enough. And true enough. But that’s what the world does. And you brought up that they were both super bowl winners.

Brees in his prime is the most accurate passer I've ever seen.

I'd be tempted to say most accurate ever.

Brees is way better than Matt Ryan overall. I say that having a high opinion of Matt.

I’m not trying to bag on Ryan. I’ve always had a high opinion of him. I guess I just get annoyed that Brady and the Pats just had such a free run in the AFC East. You seriously can’t name one starting QB for the Dolphins, Jets and Bills during Brady’s time with the Pats that was even decent. Whereas Newton and Ryan won MVPs and all three NFC South teams went to the Super Bowl while Brees was with the Saints.
