Does the success of the Predators, Vegas Knights and ATL UTD make you loathe Atl Spirit?

Because there's 3 franchises that actually put money and effort into building a good product and now have entire cities rallying around winning teams (in non-traditional hockey markets like Nashville and Vegas, no less).

We lost the Thrashers simply because they didn't want to put any money or effort into the team all so they could keep the Hawks which they're now sandbagging.

I didn't think owners could get worse than Time Warner but Atlanta Spirit is a disease to the city.

The spirit is an abomination. Always has been since their civil war early on.

Whomever failed to fire Waddell his last 6 years may be my least favorite person on earth.

Winnipeg is at least going to naturally qualify as a hockey town. But Vegas and Nashville? Just proof that if you actually invest in a winning product that people will support it. Thrashers never got that level of serious support. Meanwhile, Atlanta United has and they're a blast to watch and follow

I don’t think it would’ve mattered. See the thread about which sport runs Atlanta. The general consensus is:
UGA Bulldog football
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Braves
Atlanta united
Hs football
...
...
...
Hockey of any sort.

Moral of the story: hockey in Atlanta was doomed.

Vegas and Nashville don’t have any other pro teams. There’s the difference.

Vegas has the country's largest gambling scene and Nashville has the Titans (forgettable as they are). And this doesn't account for why Atlanta United has taken off to the degree that it has.

I mean if you can only afford to invest time and money into one thing I guess? I follow UGA sports, the Braves, am a casual follower of Atlanta United, and used to follow the Thrashers. Just because there are a lot of options to choose from doesn't mean that you have to pick one and one only to follow.

Nashville is further North and likely has more northern transplants, thus hockey is more popular there. They also have fewer pro sports than Atlanta.

As for why soccer is more supported than hockey in Atlanta: Atlanta is in the south and has a large Hispanic community. Soccer fits those demographics more than hockey

You been to an AUFC match? They average 45K+ and hispanics are easily still a minority.

I completely agree with everything you've said. People go to Preds games, because they're fun. It also helps that they're a little bit easier to get to than games in Atlanta were.

Overall, Atlanta has a pretty crappy bandwagon fan base, but I'm sure a lot of that has to do with games not being easy to get to, and them not being necessarily fun either. The Braves record was almost identical in 2016 to 2017, but 6,000 more people a game went to Sun Trust. That's a huge difference. It was a better environment, and easier access from Cobb.

How is it easier to get to than using MARTA?

Atlanta is a hockey town.

How many here were at the playoff series against the Rangers? If you werent there, you don't know what the town is capable of.

But in 11 years, the Thrashers made 1 playoff series. And blew up the team days afterward.

How many GMs get 11 years to make 1 playoff series.
How many franchises would keep that GM the entire run?

We are cursed with shite in Atlanta. shite that Tom Cousins lost his arse in the real estate market in the 80s and had to liquidate the flames for capital.

shite that we had the spirit group who instantly began infighting within years that they were formed. So much so that it neutered any decision making and left us with a eunoch as a GM for 11 freaking years.

I have loathed Waddell and his superiors for a long time. The preds, knights, and United aren't needed for that.

Why does the spirit group exist in the first place? I don't know much about the organization but it doesn't seem like the norm when it comes to sports ownership. Is there not an entity "over" them to be like 'hey, you guys fricking suck and aren't making teams better. Get your shite together'?
