Are the Hawks the worst organization in U.S. sports?

I can’t think of another that is worse over the last 50 years.
Maybe the Browns. But at least they have notoriety.

If you think the Hawks are anywhere close to the Browns for incompetence, you haven't been paying much attention.
The Hawks won 60 games and were in the ECF 3 years. The Browns literally haven't won a playoff game since the 90's.

The Hawks won the Eastern Conference just 3 years ago. Made a deep playoff run that year too but lost to Cleveland and Lebron in the conference finals. So, no to answer your question.

I understand, but the Hawks are almost never talked about. No one cares about them. And getting dominated in the playoffs is hardly indicative of any success.
It's a shite organization and always has been.
Since being better than the Browns is somehow an accomplishment, how about second worst.

Who cares if the national media talks about them? They were a really well run organization until they fired Danny Ferry for some really stupid shite.
To answer your original question, the Browns are far, far more incompetent than any other organization in North American sports.

The most recent teams have been knocked out by the Cavs with Lebron.
Back in the mid to late 80s, the teams with Dominique, Spud Webb, Kevin Willis, etc. made it to the conference semis three years in a row, only to run into the Celtics team with Bird, Ainge, Parish and McHale (twice) and Detroit with Thomas, Dumars, Laimbeer and Rodman. I mean it isn't like they were getting ko'd by a group of nobodies. Those are some pretty good teams that knocked them out.

Salty are we? Golden State was next to nothing a few years ago and now look at them. The Hawks are worth about $1.2 billion and generated about $200 million in revenue this year. Far from being shite. Yeah, it'd be nice to get a Lebron or Curry, but those guys don't come around often. Phillips Arena is also under a massive $193 million dollar upgrade. I think the future is bright for the Hawks with a good draft pick and a lot of salary cap space.

Yes, but that is sort of the point. The have always done stupid things.

Fair points.
But still, conference semis is not a very high level of achievement.
So new list:
1. Browns
2. Clippers
3. Hawks

Marlins belong on that list. Derek Jeter basically turned them into the Yankees AAA team with the absurd Stanton trade.
Also, that list should look more like
1. Browns
2. Clippers
The Browns had the #1 and #4 picks in the draft and managed to frick them both up

They did win 2 World Series, so I'd probably put them ahead of both the Falcons, Saints and Bengals.
As an aside, I thank you all for making this a discussion and not some contentious crapshow.
I've been in ATL since 1981, so I am fully invested and not doing this thread simply to bash on the Hawks. It's really born out of frustration for all of Atlanta sports.

So now it's based on wins and championships? I can think of quite a few that have sucked for a really long time:
Detroit Lions
Arizona Cardinals
Buffalo Bills
Toronto Raptors
Sacrmnto Kings
NY Jets
San Diego Padres
Mets
Timberwolves
In sure there's some hockey teams in there but I don't keep up with it.

Good list.
Bills better than Falcons. 4 Super Bowl losses vs. 2.
Not sure I'd put the Timberwolves and Raptors there until they have a longer history.
Lions is a good one. Kings also.
Hockey: Buffalo Sabres would be one

You left off the Phoenix Coyotes, the most forgettable franchise in major sports

No, not even close. They aren't even close to the worst organization in the NBA.
The Hawks have been to the playoffs 33 of the 50 years they were in Atlanta, including 10 in a row before a self imposed tank this season. They had "solid" runs from 1968-1973, 1978-1999 and then 2008-2017.
Now, like most Atlanta teams, they've done an incredibly job of consistently being pretty good and NEVER finding a way to climb to the top of the mountain. So maybe the most frustrating/annoying, but definitely not the worst.

That's not true. They were the #1 seed, but they're not hanging a banner saying Eastern Conference Champions.

Browns have averaged something like 3 or 4 wins over last 15 years.
