You used Auburn as an example though... they have way more talent than us

And they probably always will. Which is why I don't think the Auburn coach, and those like him, are the answer at Arkansas.

How about this? Since 2013, we've lost 14 games by 7 or less, almost 3 games per year. How many of those do we lose with a Venables defense?

Yes, he is one of the very best recruiters in the nation. And one of the very best defensive coordinators as well. His results speak volumes.

I would go as far to say he is better than Kirby Smart because he runs his own show at Clemson. I'm sure there would be a learning curve as a head coach, but it can't get much worse.

Some people can see the worth in a coach like that.

Others can't.

So every major college program besides BoarEd?

Why has he never been seriously considered for a head job?

You win none without an offense.

And you can lose plenty of those if an idiot is managing the clock, special teams and hiring guys around him to coach all the other aspects of the game.

Someone please explain to me why he pulled the weird arse lateral move to Clemson, hasn't ever been a head coach and I will gladly listen.

Until then, stopped acting like all of us are crazy.

He's different than Kirby. Kirby was a rising stud destined for a HC job.

Venebles was, and then he took that weird arse lateral/step down at the time to coach under a guy with less experience. Explain it please.

I choose to believe you are not stupid enough to believe I was using him as an example as a successful defensive minded coach, because I didn't say that at all.

Still wondering what you meant by this.

Sauces saying Norvell is OUT.

Gambling is a MAJOR problem. He goes to Casino's people.

He'd spend all that 3M a year.

Kirby Smart:
2002-2003 Florida State (GA)
2004 LSU (DB)
2005 Georgia (RB)
2006 Miami Dolphins (S)
2007 Alabama (AHC/DB)
2008-2015 Alabama (DC)

Brent Venables:
1993-1995 Kansas State (GA)
1996-1998 Kansas State (LB)
1999-2003 Oklahoma (Co-DC/LB)
2004-2011 Oklahoma (DC/LB)
2012-Present Clemson (DC/LB)

Where exactly is the rising stud part for Kirby?

Point was he didn't take a strange lateral/step down move.

And he's 5 years younger.

Well, as I said in another thread, if you want the scoop on Venables and his rumored links to this job going back years now just figure out who his AD was at Clemson. That should tell ya all you need to know, really.

He has spoken about his desire to not jump into a head coaching gig until the fit was right. The fit may be right here. I know there are people pushing for him to get the job here, and I imagine he is listening considering who it is asking him to take the job.

As far as the comparisons to Smart, I too feel he is a better defensive coach than Kirby, and his upside is just as high.

Someone has to give these guys their first head gig and I hope Arkansas rolls with Venables, because one thing I do know is that Venables is a fiercely loyal man. He would stay here as long as we would have him. And I haven't seen a single coach anywhere that can match his intensity.

He would be a very welcome sight on the sideline compared to the dude we just fired. That's for damn sure.

Oh, also, he left Oklahoma because Stoops brought his brother on as DC. Blood is thicker than water and all that jazz.

Venables got called up to Clemson by a man very close to Arkansas athletics.

And here's the answer to your $64,000.00 question.

"In January 2012, after it was announced that Mike Stoops would be returning to Oklahoma to resume the defensive coordinator position he had held until 2004, Venables accepted the position of defensive coordinator at Clemson, where his salary was expected to be between $750,000 and $1 million."

So, big Bubba announced that little Bubba was coming back to run the defense. Venables goes to Clemson and puts together another National Championship defense.

So he was so good and irreplaceable he got pushed out.

Yep, that's exactly who we should hire.

I'm not saying he would be BAD, I just don't want to be the test tube personally.

All in for Gus and I think Norvell, Morris and Venebles all are a pretty good hire.

Hell, I'd take Venebles, but the offense piece worries me.

He is not out. If I a betting man (pun intended), I would bet it on Norvell to be the next Head Coach of the Hogs.

Hey BoarEd.... So, why don't you just come out and say the name of that person so close to Arkansas....

TD? who exactly? you say that, as if you have to have some super-duper ring decoder to get it right.

If the guy has a gambling problem I would imagine they'll pull away from him.

Potential character flaws are sure to be a non-starter after the Petrino stuff.

Maybe Norvell does get the job. If so I would support him. I think he's great. It just seems to me like he isn't gonna survive the vetting process as well as at least one other guy I can think of.

I don't know. I don't like dropping names. It's not like I'm friends with the guy or anything. But I am friends with someone else involved in all this.
