I wouldn't pay for shite over there. Whrn Mike Irwin and Otis are the best "reporters" you can muster for "premium" material, they can go frick themselves and twice on Sunday.

If our boosters are going to require a proper ROI well be left behind in the arms race. Truth is there are only a couple of guys on the roster whose endorsement is worth anything. Nobody gives 2 shits about a blue chip lineman recruit's NIL. However those are the guys you have to pay to win a championship now. The NCAA really effed this situation up.

I guess that’s the difference in me and you, you believe what is happening now, will happen forever.

I believe this is an early adopters fee, and when in 3-4 years A&M is still 8-4, like they were when they had the crootin copter and all things going their way with Manziel, boosters will say this is a big waste of money for no change and no return.

Of course they have, there is a difference in feeding the homeless one day. And making sure all the poor elementary kids in Springdale or his hometown have a good Christmas, which Walmart could make happen. With Walmarts film crews turning it into commercials and putting it on their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube it would be more believable than the black mom, white dad, Asian daughter and Hispanic son commercials they are pushing now.

To be honest, this isn’t going to last, BUT if they started a twitch stream at $5.99 a pop or a podcast, people would subscribe.

For it to last, they would need to have a weekly AMA. Then pay that player for it. And that would work as long as subscribers questions were being answered.

Let’s assume for the sake of argument that Walmart would do something comparable.

Which they wouldn’t because what does Catalon bring to the table? Most of the US doesn’t know him from Adam.

If the idea is to use NIL to bring in talented players how is this sustainable at all? Is Walmart filming a new hog every year to do some type of charity event?

If Walmart is trying to give away money to charity to look good, why would they also give money to a college football player? Wouldn't the money they're giving to the kid be better spent on the charitable cause?

If Walmart is going to give money away then it would be all college players not just Arkansas.

Walmart

They may have started locally, and be headquartered locally, but there is ZERO about that company that is local.

They don't care about Arkansas, its' people, schools, ideals, etc. Nothing at all about Walmart anymore gives a flying frick about Arkansas.

They want wants best for Walmart. They'd give NIL money to Texas and OU if it meant towards their bottom line.

They won't give any money to any single school. They either give to all schools or none. NIL benefits them none at a corporation of that size. It benefits local businesses more.

Most likely.. but if you think someone is just going to say I like the hogs, so I’m going to donate $2m to the players with no ROI, then they are shitty businessmen you are finding or you are highly regarded in special ed circles.

Yeah, things will keep changing but not in the direction you are thinking. This is just the first step in the full professionalization of college football.

Any and every initiative that reduces the wealth gap between black and white people will be embraced by those in power.

I believe this, but what will have to happen is the money making sports leave the university and become their own entity. If it stays as part of the university there will be title ix lawsuits.

Everyone always says giant corporations will never use NIL, yet Nike and Fed Ex are doing exwcatly that, so the argument is really bullshite.

Simple fact is, that Walmart could make an entire Make-a-wish type foundation tomorrow like another poster suggested, with Arkansas athletes, and generate so much positive buzz and "giving back" PR and everything else, it would be a huge win for them on publicity. But they'll never do it because the Walton kids, who all grew up as kids of a billionaire, would rather buy $100 million paintings and keep trying to turn Bentonville into Austin than give money to some icky college football program.

The U of A even used the logos of Walmart, JB Hunt and Tyson in their initial NIL announcement last year, and I bet not one of those companies has given 10 cents to any athlete.

Our kicker is basically on Twitter begging for NIL deals. It's embarrassing.
