Well made my first trip to a little rock game today. I don't think i'll be going back because apparently i'm bad luck. so here are some observations for the day.

1. WMS is a dump, I thought everyone was exaggerating but wow that place needs a face lift in a bad way.
2. the crowd there is no better than fayetteville. say what you will about the wine and cheesers but WMS wasn't exactly rocking today for most of the game and I was even asked to sit down at one point.

3. You do sit way closer to the field than in fayetteville which is nice.

4. Do any of the electronics in that stadium work? seemed like they had trouble with them for the whole game.

5. There wasn't a single review the entire game which is weird. Kind of figured the review equipment was malfunctioning after the video board went out.

6. We are still a very poor football team.

7. We weren't focused at all today. I do a lot of management consulting work and from what I saw today we were very disorganized, didn't have a big picture plan of what we wanted to do, and we didn't really understand how to stop their offense.

8. I'll never understand why teams don't just line up 5 wide every play and throw the ball. I'm pretty sure your odds are better than 1 in 3 that we will give up a 10 yard pass.

9. Ole miss isn't a very good team either. Not to disparage their win too much because they deserved it but we are a really really bad team.

10. Everyone saying the university is handling the brandon mitchell not playing situation correctly needs to just shut the frick up. Just people being nosey and wanting to second guess the coaches more.

11. We may beat tulsa but I don't see us beating any other SEC team unless we some how bust out the superbowl magic for the LSU game.

12. Our pass rush is basically noexistant. For all the talk i heard on the radio on the way back about how our dline is the strength of the defense I see very little to no pass rush for most of our games. And when we do get a chance to pressure the QB we rarely actually catch him.

So you thought WMS was underwhelming?

Sit back and figure out who all is from Central Arkansas, as they will make themselves known...

I owned a townhouse 4 blocks from WMS, grew up in west little rock and i will be the first to tell you LR sucks arse. it is what it is.

something i noticed a few games ago while studying the defense.. no one on the defense knows any pass rush movies outside the speed and bull rush. none. like if flynn is lined up, he's gonna try a speed rush and once that doesn't work it's a wrap. they don't have anything else. they will throw a stunt in there but that's about it.

I don't think the d line is so much a talent issu ebut lack of a coach that knows how to teach pass rush techniques issue. I mean they have NONE.

Caldwell was a pretty well respected Dline coach so i'm curious as to what happened to make him forget how to have a good Dline.

I'm from Jacksonville/Sherwood. I completely agree with his post. I'd rather go to Fayetteville any day.

I'm surprised they just told you to sit down. Normally its more like a good ol' Oakland Raiders' style hay-maker to the ribs.

I'm from LR, and this is the only thing I like about WMS.

Nice thread, actually will read again.

In the game thread I made a comment when they mentioned on how much WMS was built for in the late 40's. It got buried at the bottom of the page, I'll resurrect it for your viewing pleasure.

quote:

WMS built for $1.2 Mil in the 40
s, and they've spent all of $76 in upgrades since.

I don't give a shite either way.. i don't live in Arkansas so it's a travel for me t come back regardless of where i go, but i think we need to do away with the 2 games a year shite there. i think we need 1 though.

what i would do is i would rotate 1 good game / one shitty game there every other year. so every other year they get to see a georgia or an lsu or a a and m there or something like that.

the only real thing i like about LR over F'ville is well 2 things

1. i still know people that live around htere so parking is no problem whatsoever for me, i can get out the stadium in about 10-15 minutes easily

2. there is a lot more shite going on after the game around town, either in west little rock or down town so i generally end up having more fun overall

If I want to go to a game and watch it, it will be Little Rock. You can actually see it there.
If I am going to have to watch it with binoculars, I'll just watch it on TV.

They just got through with an 8 million dollar pressbox renovation and added 500 club seats, but don't let facts get in the way of your good story.

Then that should make you even madder, 8 million for pressboxes and some chairbacks. Just what they need to do to enhance the fan experience, pamper the press guys for 2 games a year and some HS playoffs.

Great investment I'd say.

never once have I had to use binoculars and my eyesight is shite. Serious question though, if we cancelled games in little rock would you quit going all together?
