I want to believe but for two years we had a coach that valued endurance training over strength training for lineman. Hard to correct that in 8 months.

They have a total of 16 linebackers on the roster. Two redshirt seniors and one senior. One redshirt junior and one junior. Four redshirt sophomores. Two redshirt freshmen and five freshmen.

10 Bumper Pool Jr 6-2 230
17 J.T Towers Fr 6-4 205
22 Dean Edwards R-Sr 6-1 218
25 Zach Zimos R-Fr 6-4 225
27 Hayden Henry Sr 6-2 229
28 Andrew Parker R-So 6-2 235
29 Asa Shearin R-Fr 6-1 221
30 Levi Draper R-Jr 6-1 223
31 Grant Morgan R-Sr 5-11 222
33 Kelin Burrle Fr 6-0 212
35 Jake Yuracheck R-So 6-0 233
37 Eric Thomas Fr 6-3 248
43 Brooks Both Fr 6-0 225
43 Cedric Johnson R-So 6-0 208
45 Jackson Woodard Fr 6-3 227
49 McKinley Williams R-So 6-1 210

Arkansas has struggled over the years building depth at linebacker. A lot of these players are seeing action as true freshmen when they should be redshirting. Depth is still a problem and they need to address it by redshirting and building depth for the future.

Dorian Gerald said he didn't get this much coaching the last two years in an article today.

I'm kinda thinking he should be happy about that given the qb situation and how coaching worked there.

I honestly think most positions could be good.

I think Chad recruited well, he just wasn't a good coach with a big network and brought in a bunch of used up scrubs like Chavis and his high school connection.

He had a very inexperienced staff and our OC was only 33 last year. Chavis was burnt out and just picking up a check.

Sam is pushing 60 and the rest of the staff are 50s, 40s and late 30s.

I agree with you that we have some 'good' players at most positions, the big problem is though that most of the other teams in our conference have a little bit better players, and more of them. Just trying to be realistic, not negative. Hope we surprise.

I agree, but I also think we are in a better position than when 3 of the last 4 coaches have taken over.

Better than BMFP taking over for Nutt.
JLS took a diamond and turned it to dog shite.
Bert took over a spread team and tried out muscling Bama.
Chard took over a muscle team and tried to turn them into a spread, when Bert quit recruiting and was just fat dumb and lazy.

Nutt didn't recruit his last year going into the 2007 season. His agent was making calls until Ole Miss came into the picture in late summer of that year.

So Petrino really did have a bare cupboard.

Petrino took over and built the program to greater heights but got canned. Still in a better situation than he found it than Nutt.

Bert takes over and the media around the nation picked them to win six or seven games in 2013. But Bert went 3-9 and lost winnable games.

He left the program in worse shape but still better than 2008.

Chad takes over and drops nukes on the program. Nothing was left but unlike Bert, Chad did recruit some high level skill players and many of the freshmen played and the rest redshirted.

So Sam inherited a better situation than Chad did. The problem is Chad kept embarrassing himself with the San Jose State type loses. If he won those games the he might have gotten a third year.
