Special teams look like they are going to be pretty good this season. Nice to have an electric return man again.

QB play is going to be really good this year and we have a legit backup.

Would have liked to see some dominance in the trenches, but we didn't really see any. I expect that will change.

Defense is going to worry me until it doesn't.

I'd love to see Dominique Johnson pound the ball like he did a few seasons ago.

Kj was a bright spot

OL run block is a concern

Everything else remains to be seen except Cam Little.

Run game and pass coverage are the only issues. But pass coverage will be better than last year for sure, I just don’t know by how much. I think even if we struggle to run some we will be good enough to score enough on offense regardless because the receivers look good

I think we'll see a big emphasis on the run game for Kent St.

If we don't run it down their throat then we may need to worry.

I had the game on my phone, but really o ly listened as I had a lot going on Saturday. How was the play calling and how did our D-line look?

the play calling was tremendous. Watching the plays develop and the routes in the passsing game was a thing of beauty. Enos is good!

To the OP...

Not worried about the running game, If... if the OL will do a bit better. The opponent was not small on the lines by any means and they went all out to stop the run. If you take away the mess ups by our Center, etc... it looks better.

Our Defense is vastly improved. Now I know this was against a vastly inferior opponent, but... Compared to the past slow starts and epic failures of the past few years. I was very pleased.

Special teams were Special in a positive way for once. Return man, Kicker, Punter, coverage, nice all the way around.

Hints from the media that Rocket was not present with the RBs at practice today and may be injured. Same with Jaheim Singeltary as Braxton was working with the 1s in his place.

Good times.

I have a hot take.

I think Dominique Johnson is going to have more success in a Dan Enos offense than Rocket.

Someone mentioned Rocket was favoring his ribs in the first half like he took a helmet to the chest at one point

That was the main thing I took away from the game.

hopefully it’s just precautionary and they just hold him out against Kent state because we don’t need him. What happened to singletary

Fayette Villains did a preseason breakdown on the Enos offense and he explicitly mentioned that it puts a premium on backs who can get yards after contact.

He went on to say that while Rocket was tops in the SEC last year in yards before contact, he was actually among the lowest (12th of 14 starters in the SEC) in YAC. Conversely, Johnson led the SEC in YAC in 2021.

LINK

quote:

Rocket Sanders was elite before contact, not after. We can split runs into “yards before contact” and “yards after contact”. Before contact is generally a function of scheme and offensive line skill, not running back skill. Good schemes will create big holes for runners, and good linemen will block open holes. Yards after the initial contact is all on the back. To be fair, running back skill is still somewhat relevant before: vision and breakaway speed can boost yards before contact.

Sanders led the SEC in yards before contact by a mile, at 3.47 YBC per rush. But after contact? Not so hot:

Sanders was the only starting-level rusher in the SEC last season to get more than half his yards before contact. His 3.03 YAC per rush ranked 12th out of 14 starting SEC running backs, ahead of only the backs from Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

I’ll be closely watching Arkansas’ run game to see if it can consistently produce holes for Sanders under Enos like it did for Briles. If it can’t, and Sanders’ lack of YAC drags down his numbers, then you could see a bigger role for a tough runner like Dominique Johnson, whose 4.0 YAC in 2021 easily paced the Hogs running backs.

Offense- we need the line to gel still but KJ and the receivers looked good. We will see what happens at LSU when they mess with real size.

Defense-i love our new style of defense so far. It's far more downhill. With that said we will see it tested especially with all that youth.

Special team- so far so good. We need to really work it though I'm afraid as the teams get more athletic we will find where the deficiencies are.

Rocket tends to try and juke a defender too much. He loses his momentum and gets tackled, and it's usually to his left.

Overall, all 3 phases look a lot sharper and better coached as far as assignments and precision. Especially the passing game and DBs.

Concerns are obviously the lingering effects of having your starting center out and the backup not being able to snap the ball properly (everyone still has shellshock from the Chad days of center/QB exchange).

Punting and return game looked Vastly improved. I was always respected Briles ability to score in that offense, but it's really nice having a grown up in charge and actually having passing concepts and scheme and timing and precision routes (and receivers who can run them) instead of running the se 9 plays over and over and over at a rapid pace and then 4 trick plays per game and a couple bed shitting goal line moments every game...

West actually kind of looks wide open this year. Aggy is going to be a juggernaut, though with Bobby running that offense. They will be scary good with all that talent. Ole Miss looks much improved as well.

LSU is soft and Miss State is probably going to regress and Bama has QB issues and Florida apparently sucks and they will lrobably be wanting to burn down Napier truck by the time we play them...so that's good.

Not really worried about the run game. Sam said in his presser they were using this game to build more confidence in the receivers and had told KJ he wouldn’t be running much. He literally said we intentionally didn’t focus on running.

When your base vanilla running against 8 in the box and safeties are even crashing on the run most of the time you’re not going to do much damage.

Limmer isn’t the backup center. Latham is a guard and penciled back in as starter for Kent State.

He can take this week off IMO. If we can't beat Kent without him then we don't need to win.

Built like Christian Okoye and trying to move like Barry Sanders.
It was Western Carolina.

Disappointed to see KJ still missing throws he should be able to make. Just inconsistent on the intermediate throws.

WR looks promising.

Overall size and athleticism looks good.
