Assuming this is correct, I'm good with Mus. Of course we don't know about recruiting, but every coach is a crap shoot to some extent. But honestly, that question would have applied to Beard as well, since he has never been at any one spot for very long. Both coaches have relied heavily on transfers.
Would I had rather had Beard? Yes I would. But practicality has to take over at some point, and we are certainly at that point. I certainly did not know much about Mus early on, but after watching video of him, how he gets in the refs arse, obvious fire, etc. I'm good. Certainly the best practical choice at this point. Gives me some amount hope for Hog basketball again instead of the complete indifference I've had for soooo long. That in it'self is a win IMHO.

For context,
Nevada has only made the tourney 9 times and 3 were with him from 2017-2019
In 2017, he lost in the tourney to Iowa State, Big 12 champion and a lot of people's dark horse for champ that year
In 2018, he made the sweet 16, which Nevada has only achieved twice, so he's taken the program as far as it's ever been
In 2019, he exited to florida, a team in a better conference with infinitely better resources that just so happened to drum us twice this year
I'm optimistic that with better resources than he had at Nevada, he can improve on what Mike left us

Of all the candidates we bounced around here this past week, the only guy I would have been more excited about was Chris Beard.
This guy is a fantastic hire and will kick a lot of arse here.

I don't know why anyone would be whining or whimpering. This guy kicks arse. My favorite thing about this hire is that I fully expect this guy will take our current roster and win in year 1. We have a lot of talent on this team. They are going to respond well to this guy's energy and drive.
I also expect we will keep our guys threatening to transfer. They'd most likely be looking to transfer to a guy just like him anyways. A developer.
I am beyond pumped about this guy.

I'm 99% positive if he keeps this core and gets a couple bigs through transfer or JUCO we will be in the tournament easily next year. All this guy does is win, it's a huge hire.

The reason people are upset is because he was probably the 4th or 5th best choice. How can you not see why some people arent excited by that?

First, pure speculation.Nobody that knows is talking. Second, you should have never taken Marshall seriously. How many times has he pulled the same stunt? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Third, Sampson and the kid being coach in waiting was a BS move on his part. Want to part of him, and anyone with a bit of longer term reason, would walk away unless you are totally desperate, and Arkansas was not. Forth, Yeah Beard. Playing for a natty... completely out of our hands. Can only go so far. Fifth, this is a normal hiring process for any job.
So I fail to see how at this point it's a failure. But we won't know for a while. I was in Botany laboratory class listening on a walkman with shitty radio reception, when Nolan was introduced. First thought was "who the hell is that?, I thought XXXX (don't remember the name now) was coming?". Glad I was just naive, but it taught me to wait and see.

This is the real question for everyone complaining. Most of the choices in that 1-5 were not realistic or happening because of other issues with the coach.

That said, Extremely happy with this hire. Marshall/Musselman were interchangeable imo.
