Skip Holtz flamed out as USF with Florida talent. Can't take a chance on anybody who hasn't been rock solid their whole career.

I had your back on him during the last search, if you’ll recall. Do you realize how easy it would be to pay him a ton of jack to coach here, and for him to be in way the hell over his head, just like Morris? We’ve shot our wad with that now. The new coach doesn’t have to set the world on fire, but he has to be solid, in every facet of the job.

Oh, I know. I don't think there's a chance in hell they'll hire Venables now. They'll be looking to hire a sure fire thing.

I was just cracking a joke.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to hire Mike Leach.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Charlie Strong's name come up. He has some fans up there.

Reminds me of Houston Nutt in that regard. But he has shown that he can win a lot of games with programs that don't recruit well.

I don't think he's really a program builder either. He will do great things for a time and then fall off. 62% winning percentage on his career. Not bad, but not very good either.

Eh?

Skip wins 8-9 games a year now at Tech. 6-1 right now.

?

He had 8+ wins 8 out of 10 years at Tech with the other two years being 7 wins. Since his first 3 years as WSU, he's also had 8 plus wins every year. He's about as consistent as they come.

I will be happy with leach, clark, norvell. Any of the 2 are interchangeable for me. I think leach is a consistent winner who will have a WTF loss here or there, but is a hardass on his players. Has connections in texas which is big, and has SEC experience. Probably the second best coach we can hire.

Norvell and clark are up and coming hot coaching names who are probably hungry for the big time, and want to prove themselves.

Of course we all know who I really want, and his pedigree is far and above all 3 of those.

So naturally we’ll end with none of those and will hire some scrub retread coach with Arkansas ties.

Norvell has some ties to the state, and I've seen others say he really wants to be here. My childhood friends mother was very good friend with his wife at school in fortsmith

I'm partial to Butch Davis but it everyone has an opinion on what's best right now

But we’ll probably hire Butch Jones instead

Literally was just about to come here and say this.

Chesh has called it. We will hire butch, and we will live under another regime of bert 2.0.

Dude who wont ever win big. His foundation will produce an amazing 8 win season.

We are fricked.

I understand that Leach is not popular with a lot of people but if we are in fact looking for a new coach at the end of this year, and if he would be willing to come to Arkansas, I'd hire him and never give it a second thought. But only under the condition that he would hire a really good defensive coordinator and assistants (who can recruit). If he could do that, there would be a lot of happy Hog fans.

Sign me up for Sam Pitman for Arkansas head coach. He could bring in an OL in recruiting which is the backbone of any football team. Plus, he’s already proved he can do it here

This is a new idea that actually... might work. He’s never been anything more than a position coach but Orgeron has proven a position coach who can recruit his arse off fire the players up and has good assistants can win and win big. Sort of want. Not as much as I want leach but still.
