I still don't get our pitching situation. How do we only have 1-2 decent pitchers this year with all this great recruiting?
We always seem to play a team that has a 5th or 6th guy like last night that is a lefty, throws 88 mph and can't be touched and goes 7-8 innings. We never have that guy.
We've been a 2-3 pitcher team for what feels like 5 years.
DVH has a quick hook. That's a big part of the reason. The lefty OSU used last night wouldn't have made it 7 innings for us before getting pulled.
As a result we don't have an abundance of guys with confidence or the ability to figure things out during the season.

We scored 5 runs on 11 hits against that guy.
In 7 innings that was a slug fest. We hit him pretty hard but to only get 5 off of him all things considered was a weak effort.
Those 11 hits are deceptive when you leave like 6 in scoring position stranded. He wasn't pressured at all the way the rest of their guys were in Game 1.

Here’s the other thing — they don’t hit ground balls. At all. Everything is either a line drive, in the gap, or deep fly.
It makes me wonder if our pitchers are tipping their hitters off to certain pitches.
I've never seen a college team that is able to make contact on every single pitch it feels like . There have been counts where a hitter would have no clue what the pitcher was going to throw, and they were on it fastball, off speed, etc... HOW IS THAT FREAKING POSSIBLE?
I understand looking for certain pitches, but for example last night. That blond haired bitch stepped up to the plate against Tygart. One would assume Tygart was going to throw the slider to start him off, but he threw a chest high fastball and that little bastard was all over it. Like he knew it was coming.
And another point to make, how in the hell did they lay off every single slider that ended up in the dirt. It's mind boggling how disciplined and steady they are with the bats.

Two borderline hall of fame pros as batting coaches in their dugout helps.
We have this guy from Missouri State.

Riggio swings at the first pitch every single time. Gotta start throwing him off speed in the dirt instead of a get me over fastball.

I get that they have great coaching, but damn these are college kids not seasoned MLB vets.

Having a MLB batting champ and multiple silver slugger award coaching vs Nate Thompson from Missouri State creates a significant edge.
And it shows.

This. Dude gets on base every time anways, I would high fast ball him right in the back every at-bat and get my money's worth. Cocky bastard

Okay but Robin Ventura is listed as a student assistant on the website. It's hard to imagine him having time to coach between filling up water bottles, doing laundry, etc. /s

My 10 year old asked me yesterday if we should just intentionally walk Riggio from now on.
I told him no, we should just give him a four seamer to the ribs every time he comes to the plate.

Just throw him sliders low and away if he can hit singles through the 6 hole so be it

Only one way to handle that guy:

Any pitcher suggestions

It seems we hardly have anyone that has decent breaking stuff outside of Noland and Tygart. We recruit 95+ mph arms not actual pitchers.

Don't forget the little to no development under Hobbs.

DVH with a chance to redeem himself today with how he handles the pitching staff. And Lord help us, can we have somebody surprise us and have surprising command of the zone for just once.

Would be cool if we could have someone go 7+ innings and look like a Cy Young pitcher. However, we are always on the other end of those performances

Or remember that time we wasted Campbell's best career outing in that Omaha game against that FSU dude that happened to be just a little better

It's been more like left lane hammer down besides Kopps the past few years.
I looked at the pitching roster for the last 3 season and its absymal besides Kopps turning into Henry Rosenbagger.
