Weather forecasts for the weekend aren't looking all that great. Things change or course but it looks like some wet days to me. Same for the Ruston area. Let's hope for the best.

Forecast is looking pretty decent now. Biggest chance of rain is Sunday and my weather app says only a 35% chance.

Van Horn said first baseman Brady Slavens won’t play Friday against NJIT, but didn’t rule him out for other regional games.

Slavens, who sprained his ankle last Wednesday during a game against Georgia at the SEC Tournament, was "in practice gear" Thursday, Van Horn said, but it wasn't clear if he practiced.

The timetable for Slavens' return to game action was initially listed at one to three weeks.

“As far as going up and trying to get a base hit for us, I don’t see it yet," Van Horn said. "We did put him on the (27-man) roster. I think he’s getting better every day.

"Obviously, I think swinging the bat, there is a little twisting in there on that front foot when you start to swing. That might be something that we’re not ready to experiment with yet — not tomorrow anyway."

Arkansas right-handed relief pitcher Zebulon Vermillion won’t pitch this weekend due to inflammation in his throwing arm.
Van Horn indicated Vermillion could return to game action if the Razorbacks advance past the regional.

We don't need either player. Rest up, heal up boys, get ready for the super

Slavens was struggling at the plate a little and Smith came in and has been killing it. I like Goodhart playing LF and Welch being in the DH spot. I don't see any reason to rush him back at all and if we get to Omaha I'm not sure it would be a good idea to put him back in after 3 weeks off. Noland should be able to pick up the slack from Zeb.

The depth of this team is just stupid

We're at our best both offensively and defensively with Slavens in the lineup

I agree in principle but Omaha would be a really shitty place to figure out he has rust to shake off.

The thing I’m worried about is when Goodheart has to make a play on the run because he looked pretty awkward fielding out there

Let’s talk strategy here. Assuming we win game 1, I hope. Obviously we’d throw Wick so I don’t think it matters who they throw against us.

Only thing I know is that the northeastern ace isn’t throwing today due to short rest. If they will we would see him tomorrow. Kid is apparently legit. Nebraska appears to be throwing their ace.

I think both of those teams will throw their ace game 1. I don't think it really matters though. I don't see us doing anything too strange starting on Saturday.

Best case scenario is the bats get going early and often so our regular starters get some work, but we can have the option to limit their innings.
