I fear Odom is going to get offered somewhere in the $2+ million range and UA will go all lowball, thinking they are already paying him "enough" and he'll be chased until the number is there for him to leave.
He can love Pittman all he wants, but an extra $1 million per year almost too much to pass up.
In saying that, he's probably still getting large buyout $$ on the backend of whatever he's making now, so it could all just be a life choice. Let's hope they are good enough friends that he stays at least a couple more years.
All I know is, Arkansas better pony the fuk up and pay like the schools that are all in if they want to have any kind of successful football program.

I can understand not paying top $ for a former OL coach turned SEC head coach.
But if we do indeed lose Odom it better not be over money.
Because nothing will signal "We're not serious" more than a bargain bin HC and getting out-bid after ONE YEAR for a DC.
In golf there's a saying - $1,000 clubs, 50cent swing.

Assistant Pay Total

Texas A&M - $7,503,197
LSU - $7,461,950
Georgia - $7,244,000
Auburn - $6,760,000
Texas - $6,329,999
Tennessee - $6,312,292
Florida - $6,300,000
Oklahoma - $6,283,333
Michigan - $6,270,000
Kentucky - $5,781,100
Michigan State - $5,717,438
Florida State - $5,355,750
South Carolina - $5,095,792
Washington - $5,059,925
Arkansas - $5,036,250
-- Barry Odom - $1,300,000
-- Kendal Briles - $1,000,000
Missouri - $4,840,875
Mississippi - $4,753,125
Mississippi State - $4,300,000
10th in the SEC and in the last few years past $5 mil for the first time.
Quality assistant coaches is where Arkansas has to invest in the football program.
Right now they throw money at it but aren't really invested in competing.
edit:
Oh and comparing S&C coaches.
We are paying Walker the same amount we paid Herbert 8 years ago. - $300K
SCAR current S&C was making $400K.
MSU pays $350K, OM pays $325K for comparision.
So we aren't really invested in football when you look at one of the lowest paid HC (expected for OL first time HC) but also one of the lowest paid staffs in the conference.

And apparently Pitt had to basically beg and get reassurance from HY that they'd get a $5 mil assiatant pool.
Thats kind of embarrassing considering how other programs in the Conference operate.
You have a bargain basement HC salary. You also just got out from under Bert's buyout.
If you're hiring the Ed O model for a coach, you better invest in elite assiatant salaries.
I'm all hit convinced now that Odom is gone and Arkansas won't come close to the pay he'll get there at Texas.

That shouldn't be a surprise here. We never paid high for any assistant and when we did, we get the retreads like the chief.
So Sam is going to struggle getting or retaining any assistants here. So we are going to rely on a lot of unknowns. That is not the coach O strategy that we were told that we would have here.

While that may have been true in the past, didn’t Sam take less to keep more money for assistants to keep them?

Yep, he did. We're still in the top 20 nationally in assistant salary but that just doesn't cut it in the SEC when you're still below programs like Kentucky and South Carolina. We really need to be closer to that $6 million mark if we want to retain great assistants IMO.

The Tweets are pretty vague, but Foucha and Catalon seem to be hinting that Odom will be back.

Davenport reporting the same.
In typical Arkansas media fashion he’s probably about to be named head coach at Boise State.
