State 247 mod now saying he thinks it’s a greater than 50% chance they land Briles.

That wasn’t a WTF moment at all, he wanted to be a head coach, Pittman didn’t want to fire him. He failed at a bottom tier power 5 he had to go to a G5 team.

The WTF was BMFP going with him.

Briles leaving would just be dumb for future prospects, if he doesn’t at least take a HC gig.

I honestly dont blame Briles, if Pittman is meddling with the offensive playcalling as much as it seems.

I think Pittman ultimately wants a uga style ball control offense with a bunch of TEs and H backs.

Yeah I’ve said that he would run 12 and 21 style stuff pretty soon, as that’s the way to beat these small linebackers everyone switched to because of the spread.

Bad part is, Kirby is already doing it and recruiting the best players for that. And Saban could switch it up and do it over again.

UNLV was a wtf. Tulsa wouldn't have been. I agree with STL that this is just haggling for a raise. Problem is he doesn't deserve one at all so if Miss St ponies up the cash it's possible.

Arkansas fans are the only one who think that. Every scout and people who watch every game and not just SEC football believe he is one of the top coordinators.

Update from Mississippi State 247:

quote:

First and foremost, I’m told that Arkansas OC Kendal Briles has interest in the position here at State. He’s had conversations with Arnett. I’m told part of the intrigue with Briles is how hard Arnett had to prepare for the Arkansas’ offense. There is a mutual respect from Arnett and Briles.

I’ve been told the ball is in Briles’ court right now and that Arnett has told him it will be his offense. He will have the autonomy to run it as he sees fit. Apparently, that hasn’t been the case all of the time at Arkansas. Briles will have some say in assistant coaching hires, but will have complete autonomy in game planning and play calling. It will be his show if he decides to make the move.

Getting the OC hire completed is job one. It may happen this week. It may not, but it’s something Arnett is working diligently on. There is fire to the Briles’ smoke. It is not just another rumor. This is a real thing and could end up being a home run hire for State.

If we start losing coordinators to fricking State I might just be done caring about this sport.

Makes more sense with OC working with Defensive guys. Less meddling. I’d be worried KJ would leave with him. Since I think Will Rogers is a senior.

Which makes me believe we won’t be outbid for him.

Same. There is zero reason to lose a coordinator to a lateral move in conference. We clearly don’t want to play the game, if that happens, and should it really be worth our time any longer at that point.

If Briles didn't intersperse so many WTF calls in with his good ones, especially in critical situations, I don't think Pitt would meddle near as much.

I think there’s a disconnect between Pittman and Briles regarding our offensive identity.

Pittman seems to want to be more ground and pound out of the spread, which is not what the old Baylor offense used to be. Granted, Kiffin retooled that offense a few years ago with more run-first concepts, but the BYU game when Pittman told Briles to “open it up” felt like a game in which Pittman took his hand off the wheel and let Briles call it unfettered. Ditto for the bowl game.

I don’t normally get up in arms over losing players to the portal because that’s the new normal of college football, but losing a coordinator to a lesser program in our division with a stopgap head coach would be *highly* concerning.

The last 10 years not so much.

What has been done by the administration since the firing of Bobby has been abysmal to say the least.

In that time period State has averaged 7.5 wins a season and Arkansas 5 in the same division.

Until this administration commits to winning football, doubt that scenario changes much.

Returning who? We are replacing every skill position outside of Rocket.

KJ and our 3 deep at RB. 3 OL. WR could be filled out in spring and is the easiest position to find portal talent in. KJ is the big one and he isn't following Briles if he leaves. Rodgers has already said he is coming back next year. KJ is closer to Pitt anyway.

I'm sure many disagree and I know a lot of people think he's great but I wouldn't give a frick if Briles left.

The Briles family member/friend on 247 just said he thinks Briles is staying but definitely wants a raise and extension

because he is. There’s a reason South Carolina, Miami, and now Mississippi state have all went after him. He’s a top 10 OC in the country who isn’t a head coach. Maybe that’s an indictment on the offensive coaches throughout college football but he’s close to as good as we can get.

and then next year when the offense is even worse maybe you’d finally understand.
