I believe they matched an offer from UCLA a couple of years ago

Grant Williams carried them to a 2 seed that year.

The University of Arkansas announced Wednesday a contract extension for basketball coach Eric Musselman through at least the 2025-26 season.

Musselman will be paid $4 million per year and can earn $100,000 annual pay raises for up to six appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

The contract also includes up to $800,000 in annual incentives — including $500,000 for winning the national championship, and $100,000 for an SEC regular-season or tournament championship — and the option to extend the contract by one season apiece for the Razorbacks' next two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Musselman will be paid a one-time retention payment of $1.5 million if he is still Arkansas’ coach on April 30, 2026, as long as no major NCAA violations have occurred and the program is not on NCAA probation.

The UA would owe Musselman 70% of his remaining salary if he is fired for convenience during the term.

Musselman would owe the UA a $7.5 million payment if he took another job before the end of the 2021-22 season. That buyout falls to $2 million through the 2023-24 season; $1 million through the 2024-25 season; and $750,000 through the end of the contract, including any seasons earned as extensions past 2025-26.

Musselman would not owe a buyout if he accepts a job at his alma mater, the University of San Diego after April 2024.

Not bad, would take a lot of money to pull him away when you included giving him a raise plus paying the buyout.

Interesting, I could see him returning "home" when he gets older. It will have to be at a point in which he accepts a national championship isn't possible though.

I really only see a West Coast school getting him from us. I wasn't worried about Texass or Arizona. He's a beach bum at heart.

If he's wildly successful, we can offer him raises and increase the buyouts in those future years.

Love this clause.

He's definitely retiring here. I'll be an sdsu fan if he does as well.

Damn, wasn't he lead recruiter on the Arkansas 5 and Chance Moore.

Feels like a big loss.

Yuracheck fricked up royally on the buyout.

After next season, Muss will be primed for poaching, as his buyout goes down to $2 million, then $1 million 2024. This is simply unacceptable if you believe your coach is good.

And from a program that has been handing out Albatross buyouts to dogshit coaches for years, we finally get what looks like a superstar, and they low ball the hell out of him. I'm kind of baffled actually.

I believe Alabama gave Oats a $12 million buyout or something huge. Muss basically got a 1-2 year deal and will have huge negotiation leverage if/when a big money progran comes head hunting during a coaching search.

Perhaps he wanted it that way, but I can't imagine Hunter being those blind, even if he does hate big buyouts. They work when you actually have someone who can coach.

Eh, I don't think so. He will want a new contract after the next couple of years anyway if he is still making deep runs. If he isn't making those runs we get to let him go and get a little money. This isn't football. We are a top tier destination in basketball.

HY has earned my trust. I like the way he does business.

Muss has all the leverage though right now.

7 or 5 million isn't going to stop a top program from coming after him anyway. If one of the jobs that would be a step up from here opens up and they want him badly enough, they won't blink an eye paying that.

And in all honesty, Muss hasn't totally proven to be a sure thing anyway. He needs to do it for another season before warranting a massive buyout IMO.

Thinking Oats is some sort of a guarantee is also unjustified IMO. He loses a lot of seniors, there's no telling how next years team pans out for him.

That depends on how well he does here and how much we are willing to pay. But that decision will be up to Muss if he wants to stay here or not.

No, he want to school there. He halfway said it was a joke in his press conference but I'm sure he wouldn't mind coaching there towards the end of his career.

He is 56. He is getting close to that age where he is tired of moving around and is ready to settle down. He certainly doesn't look his age.
