Anybody who wants muss fired after this season is a moron, but if he leaves on his own I think he’s at least put us in a position to be a desirable destination to most potential coaches. He’s proven you can recruit and win at an elite level still here.

Don't understand all the love for Beard. He isn't a bad coach but I think a lot of guys could be successful here.

I'd take Porter Moser and his ability to develop talent over time over the Transfer portal revolving door we have now if Muss were to leave. He has fared pretty well head to head against Muss.

..... all that said... I'll believe he's leaving when I see it.

I mean, I can see why...

UALR 2016: 30-5 NCAAt 2nd Round
Texas Tech 2018: 27-10 Elite Eight, Sweet Sixteen
Texas Tech 2019: Big 12 Champion, National Runner Up, Final Four, Elite Eight, Sweet Sixteen
Ole Miss 2023: 17-3
Head Coaching Record: 253-100 (72%)

That was the thinking on Stan Heath, John Pelphrey, and Mike Anderson.

Currently, that is a lateral move and doesn't make any sense with OU entering a little bit easier of a basketball league. He is also pretty darn mediocre overall as a coach and at OU. 19 wins and 15 wins in his first two years at OU. 55% overall head coaching winning percentage.

I think he meant the Biblical Samson.

Just a typo.

Would be just as realistic as Kelvin Sampson.

If Muss leaves because of NIL funding, its a bad look for the program.

Someone posted Will Wade earlier. That will probably be the most realistic option should Muss depart.

He turned Arkansas down last time.

Whoever hires him has to also hire his son to replace him when he decides to retire.

Agreed. I certainly don't want Muss to leave, but if he does, then I think Yurachek is well positioned to make another great hire. I get the skepticism with Yurachek given the state of the football program (which was of his own making), but he has proven he's willing and capable of going after some high quality basketball coaches if the 2019 search is any indication. The reported targets in 2019 were:

Beard (the white whale - busy playing for a national championship)
Sampson (proven coach and cheat)
Muss (no explanation needed)
Gregg Marshall (big name at the time and proven psychopath)

Arkansas basketball is one of the top 2-3 jobs in the league, which cannot be said for the football program. That said, the dynamics of college coaching and recruiting have changed substantially since 2019.

This year is an aberration but Muss’ SEC record is concerning even with the postseason success and if we can get Beard we’ll come out better imo.

There’s obviously the chance that we get a mediocre coach though.

This thread is a fricking embarrassment.

Did you not watch the progression during football season? We haven't even hit rock bottom yet. It's been a slow collapse by the fan base.

Rumors everywhere. We're going to fire Pit, Muss is leaving, half the team are secret lovers.

We haven't even got to the shooting a persons horse level yet.

I guess this is neither here nor there, but it's crazy to think Arkansas basketball has only had 13 head coaches in 100+ years

Feels like we've had that many football coaches since I've been a fan

Nahh, settle down friend. Half the fun is the coaching searches, and plane tracking. Like Christmas to this old fart.

We'll be fine once the dust settles, or start the process all over again. Ever had Christmas in July?

Alabama football has had only 18 head coaches in almost 130 yrs.

Arkansas has had like 33. That's an average of less than 4 yrs each.

Bama's average is over 7 yrs.

Good programs actually hire the right guy and he leads the team to enough success that he doesn't get fired quickly.

Arkansas hoops is one of those programs. Arkansas football clearly is not...

Arkansas track has had 2 coaches in 50 yrs.

Arkansas had 14 SWC basketball regular season titles from the 20s-50s.
