Sounds like Arkansas is working on a deal to make John Chavis their DC. Not a done deal but definitely headed that direction.

That's ok. We could do worse.

I’m ok with it. He at least runs an attacking defense.

If it was Chavis he would have been hired a week ago when his name was rumored. He isn’t a coach you wait till after a bowl to announce. He is already out of a job.

What if by waiting it avoids us paying a buyout?

He’s running A&M's defense for the bowl game and is still employed.

He employed through the bowl game. You don’t have to keep that type of hire secret. Jimbo isn’t keeping him.

It’s something you do if you don’t want to buy him out or want his salary to be a combo A&M buyout + Arkansas contract and let him focus on his current job in bowl prep.

Dead period lasts until January 12th meaning we will see many coaches leave schools after kids sign tomorrow and once bowl games end seasons with the tenth assistant coming.

No.

Chavis would be a good hire I’m sure, not fresh and overly exciting but we’ve got a fresh and what seems like an exciting youngish head coach so maybe having someone older who’s been around the league with lots of experience would be a yin to the yang type of situation, a nice harmony if you will.

Chavis gonna top off his retirement accts for a year or two. Hopefully they don't pay him anywhere near his current salary and make him earn some of it.
