Things are a little slow around here and I want to have some optimism for at least one more week.

In my super backed by science opinion I believe that if Starkel stays healthy he's going to be Mallet-ish. He's going to make some awesome plays then some dumbass plays, but what he will do most is make Arkansas dangerous. This is what cautiously optimistic me believes. I really think we're going to see glimpses of what Arkansas can be under Chad Morris. If he leads us to a bowl game, then there is no reason that the Rant should not fricking detest Razorback fans this coming offseason.

We have a lot of football to play obviously but by this time last year I knew we were going 0fer in conference. At this point in time I think we steal a couple this year and we ride into next year swinging our dicks (even piggi and the other hog sisters) all over the rant.

or he sucks and we don't idk, quit yelling

I think Starkel gives us something that Ty Storey, Cole Kelly, and the Hicks, could not. He gives us a puncher's chance.

He might throw three INTs and doom us. But he's also capable of going off for 4 TDs in a game. Our WRs and TEs finally seem to be grasping that concept of actually catching the ball so he has a plethora of weapons.

Yeah, barring a miracle, Bama is going to pound sand in our behinds. But the rest of the SEC West doesn't look so good. We lost to fellow bottom feeder Ole Miss I will grant you, but the difference between bottom feeder and middle of the pack isn't that big this year.

I think we can steal one, maybe two, SEC games this year and have an outside shot at a bowl.

Or we don't win a game for the rest of the way and Y'all will only hear from me when my supervisor at the Betty Ford clinic thinks I can be allowed near a computer again.

In recent history, I cant remember where one player has made such a drastic difference in how the team performs. The most recent one I can think of is McFadden, but he had Jones and Hillis who could also go. Im sure there are examples but I cant think of any of hand.

When he came in, the guys lit up. He was a true leader on the field. No disrespect to Hicks as I know he is a student of the game and is a highly successful G5 football player, but the SEC is another level.

Im not predicting a bowl game, but Ill be damned if we arent in some games this year that no one expected us to be in. If we can play TAMU to a 7 point game last year, then we could do the same this year, and if things bounce our way then you never know.

Regardless, the defense has to improve or it wont happen either way.

I think Hicks is going to go down as the Peter Principle at work in college football at Arkansas.

By which I mean someone who did a good job right up until they got promoted to a position that was out of their league. He rose to the level of his incompetence.

Now he might prove me wrong and come in and throw a billion TDs. God I hope he proves me wrong.

But it is not on him that he got named the starter. Starkel was unsure by his own admission. I wish we didn't face Ole Miss while the transition to Starkel was happening but what can you do?

Tbh I started helicoptering it when I got to this part:

It was so good last week watching a team that was actually kinda fun to watch as opposed to feeling like something you love is a chore which is what Razorback football had been to me for a while. We’ve been starved.

I remember watching that Georgia Arkansas game live in Mallet's first year . Even though we lost, that game was a blast and everybody was excited about the future. If we can get a couple wins against the bottom teams and give the upper teams hell then I'll be miserable this offseason waiting for next season to start. On the other hand if we just get gangbanged in another 0fer this year I may have to move into the Nega house with Stonehog and the others

Starkel does remind me of Mallet with his arm strength, kid has a cannon. I went back and watched the highlights of the CSU game and what I was most impressed by is his quick release.

There was one play in particular that went 'snap, hands, pass' literally faster than you can read those words. It was a 10-12 yard rocket that led to a first down completion. The dude can sling it with a pretty spiral and accuracy out the arse.

I think he has a better head on his shoulders than Mallet too. If he keeps playing to his best potential he - and we - will do some great things.

While watching the game with my father in law, I made the statement "He looks like Ryan Mallett back there."

Expecting him to laugh, he surprisingly said "I was just fixing to say the same thing."

Now, will that transition to the win loss column? Who knows. Probably not much this year. But dare I say next year......could be fun.

Mallet choked in every big game situation, Bama, Sugar Bowl etc....

Hopefully Starkjesus can elevate his game and not need a scantron or weed.

He gets the ball into our young playmakers hands and takes pressure off Boyd and Whaley, everyone just looked so much more crisp and relaxed with him in

He gives us a home run threat we haven't had in years. With him throwing the ball it really feels like any play could be a deep ball behind the secondary and the defense has to respect that. Starkel has completely transformed how defenses have to play against us.

The other side of the equation is we now have a young crop of receivers that can actually get behind the secondary to make that happen. The future is bright, y'all.

One thing I know for damn sure is that in that game, the better QB will be wearing Razorback Red. Jimbo lost his mind choosing Mond over Starkel.

Agreed. I have noticed several folks suggesting it wouldn't have changed anything because Starkel only had one scoring drive in the game, but the truth is, like in a game of chess where once the first move is played there are around 7 billion possible ways the game will play out, if Starkel had started the entire game would have been different. From playcalling on both sidelines to momentum swings, it's an entirely different ball game. All I can go on is what my eyeballs tell me and my eyeballs say Starkel is a much, much better option at QB.

I think Arkansas may have stomped a mudhole in the landsharts had Starkel started the game.

He is better than Hicks. He is the best QB we have on campus.

We were tied with Colorado State in the 4th qtr. when we used a ESPN top 10 once a season highlight play by our TE and a scoop and score to beat a team who had lost their QB and was playing in heat they weren't used to (same as our altitude excuse last year).

Before you pump too much sunshine (and he is better and yes we do have a puncher's chance in a game or two in the SEC now)...remember reality. Do you think Bama would have been tied with Colorado State in the 4th Qtr or do you think the score would have been 63-7 with the third team playing?
