We may have dodged a major bullet there and half our fanbase wanted him.

Yep I was wrong and I’ll be the first to admit. I’ve always thought crow tasted pretty good though never been afraid to admit when I was wrong

He would have been a really bad/divisive hire for us and would not have set us up for the future with the next coach.
Pittman may not get us to the 8-10 win hump but he's not going to fracture the fanbase, will be accountable and likely won't be a sociopath in blowing up our program with zero guilt.
Worst case he give us a nice foundation for the next guy, don't see Leach doing that.

Leach = Bielema running the spread. People base the majority of their want for Leach on winning in weak conferences and on his quirkiness during press conferences. Mike Irwin was practically campaigning for Leach. Probably thought it would be fun to ask who would win in a fight between Geronimo and Santa Claus during the postgame. There was also a contingent of fans wanted him because he talked about how loud wms was back in the 90s.
Problem is that Leach has a little bit of Morris in him as well in regards to throwing players under the bus. The “fat girlfriend” speech doesn’t fly anymore today and players won’t take shite from dorks who never played a down of college football.
You also have to be willing to adjust your scheme within your identity. You can still run the ball out of the spread.

Has the sheen ever worn off a new coach as quickly as Leach from week 1 through 3 this year? It's crazy how quickly they went from top of the world, straight to the bottom.
It doesn't help that the LSU win doesn't look impressive at all now. But still, has any fanbase and program fallen so quickly and hard on it's face?

He didn't even make it to week 3. Went from hero to zero in 7 days.
His honeymoon lasted about as long as a Britney Spears Vegas wedding.

quote:That LSU win bumped Leach up crazy. Which, I understand, if we played and beat LSU week 1 I'd be pretty estatic. I'm pretty happy with Pitt's one win over a mediocre to bad Miss State because of how bad we were previously.... but I think Bert's win over Texas shows that one good emotional win isn't worth creating a complete hype train like Miss State did with Leach. The pirate merch, the get on the bandwagon ad, their douchecanoe fanbase and "media" trash talking..... all of that led up to their collapse. Then you add the fact that we seemingly broke the code and now every team with a competent DC knows how to stop the genius Leach offense and you have a meltdown. Also, Bielema and Morris proved that quirkiness and an inability to shoulder the blame for a loss gets really old really quick.

I was vehemently against Leach.
I was for Kiffin, then it was announced Pittman, I wanted Briles as his OC. Many fought with me on that. I may be wrong right now, but I think next year and the year after, most will be calling him the coach in waiting.

I think worst case is he is a Nutt and over stays his welcome if not winning and half the fans and media stay on his side, because of access instead of winning.
Hopefully he wins though and we don't have to worry about that.

This might be a hot take but Nutt’s W/L record wasn’t the reason I wanted him gone. It’s all the off the field drama and attitude that made me want him fired. I don’t think Pitt is anything like Nutt in that regard.
Plus Pitt is probably closer to retirement than a10 year regime. I hope our next coaching transition is clean and coming off of success. Pitt retires with an overall winning record and helps pick a coach to elevate us more. We need some stability here now.
Also don’t think Pitt is gonna give much access to media. He is cordial and country boy polite but he is very good at avoiding questions as well. If he takes after Kirby he will be one of the most restrictive coaches we’ve ever had.

God, I can't even begin to tell you how much I agree with this. Clark, Norvell, and Kiffin were my top three. Beyond those three, I thought we struck out and they were mostly the same to me. I was not at all excited about Pittman, but I legitimately wanted Pittman more than Leach. I was actively against Mike Leach and it felt like I was going insane telling people why. I would have been equally excited to get Drinkwitz as I was Pittman, and I would have been more excited over both of them than Leach. We don't really know what we have with Pittman and Drinkwitz. We know exactly what we have with Leach after a combined 18 years at TT and WSU, and it's been a tepid ride for both of them. Although, TT has yet to match the success he brought them, but that says more about Tech than it does Leach.
Keep in mind, Missouri and MSU were both bowl eligible last year. They're a more ready team than we were, going 2–10 the past two years and 4–8 the year before that. The fact that we were leading Georgia for almost three quarters, beat State, and got robbed of the Auburn win, really says a lot about our upgrade vs. theirs.

Rhule, Kiffin and who knows, I was kind of against Pittman until he hired Odom and then Briles.

I was not, as near as I can remember, vehemently against him but I do recall bringing up that Leach has some real down sides with his personal style and his coaching.
He's going to win you some games he shouldn't but he is going to lose quite a few games he has no business losing. You will get some temper tantrums along the way while he does it.
Leach was a better option than Chad, sure, but my cat routinely deposits things in her litter box that would make a better HC than Chad.

I really didn't want another personality like Bielema. While it is fun when you are winning, when you are not, you are big sad like MSU fans right now. Annoyed with anything he says.

I was against Leach coming here but I never seen so much arse kissing for Leach on the rant ever. He has been a head coach for almost 20 years and has never won a conference championship, never made a college football playoff and has a losing bowl record.
But yet State fans and others on the rant worshipped him as a god that was going to do something at State that is radically different than his past years. Well it looks another typical Mike Leach season.
He is exactly what his record says he is.

I wanted Leach because I thought his offense would be entertaining and would draw some recruiting interest.
I didn't realize that rushing three and dropping eight would completely shut it down. And he seems to have no answer for it other than blame his players. We dodged a bullet there and I was completely wrong.
I'm glad we got Sam,he's doing a great job with the hand he's been dealt and makes no excuses.

Briles was the best option at OC once Pittman was announced.
Just look at Auburn, they hired Chadwick P. Dumas, esq.

I still try and block out the John L season but it has to rank above the misstake season

He's beat it before, but his quarterbacks this year are dogshit and can't read a defense to save their life
Leach is still a good coach, wouldn't write him off yet
