Will be question marks with any coach we hire

Question marks are one thing. Blatant red flags are another.

Our fan base seems to be conflating the two.

He also spent three years under Saban. Hopefully he learned some about how to manage a locker room.

What worries me is Saban would have the same hard on for beating him

Every candidate has question marks, especially with regard to making the transition to the SEC (excepting Gus who’s already in the league). Those don’t equate to red flags.

If y’all think we quit when the going got tough under Bert, just wait until things go to shite under Kiffin.

His USC team was literally fighting in the locker room by the end of his tenure.

Forget the sanctions, the dynamic of his USC teams was terrible.

The dynamics at a program like USC are entirely different to anything else in the country. I mean, those dudes used to have Snoop Dogg come to workouts for the "cool factor". Talk about a thug culture. They got it in spades there.

I'm more interested in what he's doing now. And what he's doing now is kicking arse and taking names at FAU (or whichever Florida program it is). He turned a 3-9 team into a 9-3 team in one year and tallied 800 yards of offense in one game.

The guy can flat out coach.

He is worth the risks he brings to me personally. He could potentially build a winner here.

Just a point of order, Snoop is not "thug culture". What they had going on at USC was "celebrity culture". They had Will Ferrell on the sideline alongside Snoop. And starlets dated players. Snoop is chill, not thug.

It's not like they had a Miami thing going on with connections to drug gangs and nightclub owners. Also, all of that was back in the Pete Carroll and Reggio Bush days. We are almost 15 years past that.

Barrett Sallee just posted this. Venables and Norvell emerge as top candidates. Might be old info as everything today points Norvell out due to red flags.

Are we really prepared to go all in on a guy that has been fired from every decent job he's had?

People point out the 10 win season he had at USC... what they fail to mention is that USC went 7-6 the next year.

Oh the team was depleted in talent leading to his 4-7 record over his last 11 games at USC! Except Coach Yaw Yaw went 6-2 with the same players to close out the season.

Think about that for a moment. Ed Oregon did better then him with the same players. A coach we play each and every year. Yaw Yaw wins more games with the same players.

He had a great offense at Alabama. And he's had a good year at FAU... except that his marque win this year is North Texas. That is it. I shite you not folks.

He played two teams that would be seen as good this year in Navy and Wisconsin and they both spanked him.

This 8 game winning streak we are in love with?

Middle Tennessee State, Old Dominion, WKU, North Texas, Marshall, La Tech, FIU, and Charlotte. Huzzah.

Are we really going all in on a coach who can boast about knocking off North Texas? Because if so then Jeff Monken is 1-2 against them over the last two years and that is at Army, a school that has a disadvantage against every other team at the FBS level. Including the other service academies since they have relaxed standards when it comes to linemen.

You do realize he coaches at FAU, right? A Conference USA team that went 3-9 last year. What, did you expect him to beat Navy and Wisconsin?

He coached usc through sanctions and got canned after 3 years

No post seasons, lost 10 scholarships per year and NCAA let Juniors and seniors transfer out without sitting out his first year and still did solidly/great until the depth issues caught up

He coaches there for a reason.

Yes, they went 3-9 last year but look at their schedule this year. Its North Texas and the 8 little dwarfs for his wins. While, like most G5 conferences, Conference USA can be good or bad... this year they are terrible.

He has beaten exactly one decent team this year in North Texas.

OMG he's at FAU though!

So what? Conference USA is crap this year. In a weak G5 conference it is easy to turn things around. He has beaten three teams with a winning record this season. Those teams are the powerhouses of North Texas, Marshall, and FIU.

Hell, the Sunbelt is pretty bad this year but at least Neal Brown has knocked off LSU.

Also what makes Norvell's background issue worse than Schiano? He might as well have been caught with a dick in his hand.

It doesn’t. If the allegations from the McQueary suit are true, then Schiano is a coward tPOS of the highest order.

I’d be interested to know the extent and severity of Norvell’s alleged issues, which are rumored to be gambling and/or betting on sports. Is it as benign as making a few trips down to Tunica or betting the Greyhounds in Left Memphis? Or is it something more serious?

I'm starting to feel like we're going to have a very underwhelming hire waiting around for gus then being too picky after he leaves the market leaving us holding our dicks

Well those are FAU's conference opponents that they are expected to compete against, and they went 3-9 last year against similar competition.

If Kiffin is the guy, I’ve lost all hope for the football program in general. I mean, for real. He has the mentality of a 40 year old virgin. He’s posting memes of Saban on twitter in ripped jeans. This is someone you guys want leading our program for the next (insert # of years here until he pulls a Petrino or leaves for next big gig)?

Gus was never coming here, GOBN got played Gus gonna get paid.

If Gus hadn't beat Bama, the atmosphere surrounding him would have been a little different. Auburn wouldn't be a quick to negotiate a new contract.

He knows how it is at Auburn though - you can go from hero to goat in one game, and you are always going to looked at as 'little brother' in the state of Alabama.

Of course he is not denying any interest in Arkansas, he's smart enough to hold that card close to his vest - negotiation to go on, you know.

What he needs to realize though, is that this almost certainly will be his last and only chance to come to Arkansas, if he truly wants to.
