His best team was his first with Colleen players.

He had no clue how to run a program and the Arkansas AAU teams like the Mavericks were fed up with him. Those players are the future if you can get them to campus. They will turn around the program with the right coach.

Jimmy Dykes is an a-hole, he never made any friends in the athletic department and that's why it was so easy to fire him. He had a confrontation with Mike his first week here and it's been downhill ever since. Good riddance.

Someone mentioned that a good while ago like a year or more- may have been you or someone else here. I'm not too shocked by that. He's a long time hog but I could see him acting like he owned the place.

Damn, he had 3 seasons?

Seems shorter

Here is the big question tho…..

I get firing / forcing out a coach going into the NCAA tournament cycle as a way to hire the next coach during the tourney meet and greets. This can work well if you already have the next coach lined up, buy if you do not, you miss the "glow" cycle and have to pick what is left.

Dykes had to go. He's run the program into the ground and is losing top instate recruits that could be difference makers. People bitch about Bielema and Anderson but Dykes has done far more damage to his program than those two combined.

Dykes thinks Sutton was a better coach than Nolan, many forget he rode on his back as he crawled to Kentucky. Part of the reason the hire was very popular with a portion of the fan base is he agreed with their sentiments that the ball is jist rolled on the court by Anderson and Nolan's teams.

Like Sutton he haa an arrogance around him that is hard to put into words, the difference is Sutton actually accomplished a little in the game while Dykes ended up with a job he wasn't qualified to have, even if it was just the women's program.

Dykes can certainly talk the talk as we are all aware having listened to his comments during the games over the years, however, the outcome should be no surprise when he took the players side during the taking of a knee then allowed his best player to transfer to a sec school. He thought by taking their side they would play for him, he wasn't wise to the fact they have no respect for him or they never would have made the choices they did...

And grits, Blair would certainly entertain a return to the hill, his heart is here, but he has a better end for his career where he is currently. He is likely less conflicted about making the move back now than he was 3 years ago, but you never know.

Well, on the bright side

getting fired for being a lousy coach fulfills one more item on the checklist to fill Dick Vitale's shoes.

Dick told the humorous story multiple times that he might have lasted a little longer as coach of the Pistons if he hadn't selected Greg Kelser over Sidney.

Oh no, what are we gonna do? Literally dozens of people are anticipating this hire.

Dear Lord please don't let him go back to commentating Arkansas football games. He's the worst.

Much like Kim Anderson, who is cheerfully burning down the Mizzou basketball program, Dykes was a coach that loved the university passionately... and was in way over his head. He just was not going to turn things around here.

With a good coach who can keep the local talent in state the Lady Backs have a shot at putting together a very talented team that could compete for the SEC title. We really do have a bumper crop of quality female basketball players coming up right now. Dykes has been unable to keep the talent in state and nothing he's said or done this season indicates that is going to change.

You may be right but I was out in CS around the NCAA win and the SEC move and I got the impression he was solid about TAMU. Were you instead thinking his assistant Vic might jump from State back to Hogs?

I get the feeling it is more than that, heck you might have a dozen or so just at the mothership in Birmingham that want to grow the numbers for SEC WBB.

NCAA WBB home attendance leaders for 2016 (just SEC listed)

#1 South Carolina
#2 Tennessee
#8 Kentucky
#16 State
#18 Texas A&M
#26 Missouri
#36 Georgia
#37 Vanderbilt
#40 LSU
#47 Alabama
#50 Auburn

That leaves only Arkansas, Mississippi, and Florida outside the Top 50. It may not happen at Florida but you have to think the folks in Birmingham can get Arkansas and Mississippi there.

Its no big secret that Blair loves the area. His wife is the head of the Nursing School at Arkansas and he spends a lot of time off season up here. I'm far from a social butterfly and I've seen Blair a few times around town.

That having been said he is in a great situation at CS with a team that he likes and an administration that thinks he walks on water. He's coming back to Fayettevile... but it won't be as a coach I am afraid.

What a frickin' disaster that was.

Not like I honestly give a shite about anything involving woman athletically though.
