If the experiment works….

We find our hogs in an interesting situation, which I’ll argue has a chance to work in today’s college football.
Our HC, who was in hot water job wise, happens to be humble enough to hire a OC genius and keep a pretty good, young aggressive DC…and truly turn them loose to run the offense and defense while he schmoozes for NIL $$$ and helps with the oLine.
Allowing Petrino and Williams to 100% focus on their side of the ball without distraction might work. It might not…but I like it conceptually.
Pittboss is still likable, even if he does seem a bit more politically aware and cautious. Still…he might just be setting the plate for a nice spread of coaching talent, vs over-managing (eg: Jimbo Fisher) which won’t work like it used to now that players make more than some assistant coaches, etc.

It could work to the point of making a lower tiered bowl. We don’t have the talent to compete for a playoff spot.
That’s the problem with keeping a coach that deserved to be fired. Pittman doesn’t inspire confidence in recruits or donors.

We may have a little more talent than we think this year. I don't know how many of them are transfers, but we have, it think it is, 19 players that scouts are looking at.
No Koolaid being poured, but it could be a similar situation to when Danny Ford recruited the talent and Nutt won the next year with the players he left.
We'll know soon enough though.

Pittman does a better job recruiting in the portal than the traditional method.
Arkansas had 22 transfers from the portal last year and 12 of those transfers are Redshirt freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors. So it looks like he is trying to avoid as much turnover as he can with the portal and not depend on and done Seniors like some schools do.

I've got us at 4 wins

I struggle to find the 4th one myself. Best shot is Mississippi State in my opinion.

We will win more than 4....

Which ones do you have down for a win?
Posted on 8/26/24 at 8:35 pm to hawgndodge
I have Arkansas beating Ole Miss to keep bowl hopes alive but play flat against Texas in a loss then follow that with another ugly loss against Tech.
Then they get embarrassed again by Missouri.
Then they get embarrassed again by Missouri.

Arkansas has really struggled against State and that is against some bad State teams. They have a better shot beating Ole Miss that will likely overlook them at home than winning any road game.

State, OM, and another that we shouldn't
6-7 wins....
6-7 wins....

Two emotional, historic rival games back to back. It would be extremely hard for Arkansas to win both. Either they beat Ole Miss and lose to Texas or they beat Texas and lose to Ole Miss. The only breathing room is the bye week.
Instead of spacing out these big games, they put them together like they did with LSU when they had to play Bama and Arkansas. For years LSU complained about it and finally the SEC gave them what they wanted.
Now playing LSU in September, favors them as they don't have to worry about Bama until later in the season and no longer the possibility of a Bama hangover before facing Arkansas.
Texas doesn't have to play Oklahoma until October and the Aggies until the end of the year which favors Texas in November against a very possible depressed, injured Arkansas team. I'm sure Texass said no about playing Arkansas in September after what happened back in 2021.
Ole Miss doesn't have to worry about any rival games until State the last game of the year and the SEC sure as hell weren't going to schedule Arkansas before that game.
Missouri? They got Arkansas where they want them thanks to the SEC. The last game of the year against an Arkansas team that has nothing to play for and since Missouri isn't LSU in November, Arkansas doesn't get up for the game at all.

Hogs aren't winning a SEC game
I took UAPB +53.5

3 wins would clearly be the “If” part of the subject title. It may not work at all.
I really don’t expect it to work. The Okie State game will reveal all. Thankfully that’s long before hunting season and will assist in my planning.

This is a terrible take. You don't run a guy like HY off after he pulled off the Coach Cal hire. Especially before Cal even gets to SEC play. Yes, football is the moneymaker in the college game. But let's be honest, we will never be a playoff team. We may get lucky and squeak in by having some weird season like Mizzou did last year once every decade or decade and a half. But, in reality, as an athletic department, we should just hope to win 6 games each year in football and then go light it up on the basketball court and baseball diamond.
Flame away.

Don't disagree at all.. But "55" will be here in a bit.
WIth this caveat, FB should be a 7 win every year. 4 non cons and 3-8 conference wins a season, with a chance at more periodically.
NIL will keep us from being anything more. And it sucks, not that without NIL these past 10 years being any better

The Chicken man told HY to hire Cal. No way he pulls that hire off acting alone.
That being said, remember the last time we fired a AD and an HC?
IIRC that got us Chaggie and moar losses.
