On the bright side, we’ve gone from bitching about being blown out by scrap teams to bitching about 20 point wins.

Yep. The others consensus is we need more designed runs for the qb except for on 4th down.

That pretty well sums it up. Briles got way too cute way too often and it bit us in the butt all game. He copulated with the canine.

Trying to make KJ a pocket passer gave me PTSD flashbacks to all those games Nutt would try to make Matt Jones a pocket passer.

I honestly don't know if Briles will ever be able to not get super cutesy. That is the Texas way in football right now. With the exception of a handful of HS teams and A&M everyone is doing the insane jet sweeps on 3rd and 2 and what not down there.

The play calling has to get better. Stop with all the BS in the back field. Make teams double team Burks and find Warren and Kern to pick up first downs

need to get him involved more, probably around 4 or 5 touched a game. He’s actually a sneaky good tight end with soft hands

I’ve always hated jet sweeps. We’ve always done them at the worst times and always failed with them over the last 5 years

I don't know if I'm ready to throw the towel in yet on Briles, I'm getting closer but not ready yet.

The performance of the offense this game.. all of it, play-calling etc is directly on KJ's shoulders. He started the game missing pretty much every receiver (simple throws) and overthrowing a ball by at least a 3 to 4 story building high. As a play-caller that gives you zero confidence at the QB position... very difficult to call plays when your QB is performing like that.

I think Briles was scared to call plays the 1st half and probably still a bit shell-shocked the 2nd half. KJ has to be better out of the gate or it's going to be a long season.

Only person I've ever seen make them work consistently was Joe Adams.

Disagree on that. Wisconsin absolutely murders with them. They must be born running them up there though because it never seems to work the same anywhere else.

Wisconsin has had good offensive linemen for decades and it helps they didn't have the shitty administrative debacles that we had for 30 years.

Oh I agree with all that. Just saying they have success without generational athletes.

Wisconsin is solid but they have struggled to get any speed in Madison as they benefit in a weak conference until Ohio State brings them back to reality.

1) Kendal Briles…I’m about done with him. He has a few moments last year that pissed me off and it continued today. His player selection is questionable at best and his play calling is not good 70% of the time. I’m over him and hope we move on. He has a lot of making up to do for me to get back on his bus.

I was all about Briles when he was hired and still have hope because, on paper at least, he is one of the higher graded OCs in the country over his career as a play caller.

But let's look a little deeper. His one year at FSU was a simply not good. Their offense just never looked in sync and neither does ours, even throughout most of last year.

His most successful years as an OC were under his father at Baylor and under Kiffin at FAU. Any time he didn't have a better offensive mind above him, he hasn't been great.

Briles also doesn't seem to understand how to fit his play calling to his personnel. Last year, he wanted to run Felipe like RGIII and this year, when he actually has a running QB, he tried to make him a pocket passer for much of the Rice game.

It just doenst make sense. It also took him an entire season to stop running disastrous trick plays.

Hope I'm wrong, but it looks as if Chip Long should have been hired instead of Briles. Both were on the market when Pittman was hired and Long was also a GA at Arkansas, so he probably would have come. All I know is, Tulane looke/nearly beat OU Saturday and we could barely score for an entire half against Rice.

Rocket Sanders should get 50% of the carries going forward. I love Treylon Smith, but he is too small to be an every down back.

100% agree.

Yeah. There were concerns last season but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt considering new staff/no off season/etc. But things didn't look much different Saturday and we didn't have Franks' arm to bail us out.
