I don't like it. He always throws it backwards instead of slightly forward. I think it will cost us at some point.

It's not the play I don't like it's the way he throws it backwards. Which if not caught is a fumble if I am remembering it right.

It gets Burks in the open field with a few blockers in front of him and it got big chunks every play. I don't like the backwards pass aspect of it, but, Burks is on another level than every other offensive player out there. Basically every time he touches the ball, good things happen. No one else can say that.

The team should watch Burks on getting vertical

Why are people bitching about a huge play. Burks wasn’t 100%. Even if he was, why complain? Franks has flaws, but if our WR/RB catch the ball the last few games, they’re all blowouts.

Offense hasn’t clicked, but Franks has been solid.

Something to consider the way the pass is thrown and when it's thrown. Clearly you lineup and play a numbers game on outside there. The other thing is when they line Burks is in back and they throw to him towards sideline if you miss it needs enough arm to go out of bounds and it's probably not that risky as long as you don't get blown up or miss badly

He was about to throw that one and wisely pulled it down.

All fine. Just make Franks 2 yards deeper on the snap so he isn't throwing it backwards.

The entire point of that play though is that it forces the defense to account for a receiver going downfield, since Burks can still pass, which opens up space for him

Throwing the pass behind the los gives the wr more space to operate as the other WRs set up their blocks.

As cool as it would be for burks to throw the ball on that play that’s not why he’s behind franks when he throws it. This is by design it is the spread version of the triple option and with a more dual threat qb it can be even deadlier. Burks is designed to be behind the qb so he can actually run past the los and still no he has the pitch man outside. Burks is basically the option back out of the triple option just widened out. It really stretches the defense and makes them cover sideline to sideline.

I’m a high school football coach and if you face a smart qb this shite will drive you crazy because it is very hard to stop

Well I think that's also a part of it, but Warren took off when Burks got it so it's definitely by design

Surprised people aren't picking up on this. TV commentators didn't seem to get it either. The play is no more dangerous than an option pitch. Maybe less dangerous since if Franks misses him completely there's a good chance the ball goes out of bounds.

ETA: I think some of us are talking about different plays here. There is the triple option and then there is the WR screen backward pass that is designed to give Burks the option to throw.

I will never criticize a play that gets the ball in Burks hands.
